Love your football knowledge . And insights . Thanks for posting. I love this place , learn a lot.

I am surprised you understood the post. It was full of typos. Posting at 3:25am is something I should avoid.

Thanks for the compliment. I like to think that I have the deductive reasoning and common sense stuff down pretty good. Understanding how things work, how coaches think and all of that too, but when it comes to the very technical stuff there are many others here that know far more than I do.

When I first visited a Rams forum it was Ramstalk about 17 years ago. I was amazed by the football knowledge there. A few posters stuck out for good info. It took time to learn who was full of it too. But, I didn't know anything back then. My football IQ was very limited. I learned from everyone else posting. Having conversations, developed my perspectives, and built my confidence in stating my opinions. Anyone can learn from a place like this and from the wide range of knowledgeable fans here.

Agree. There are many people here with 100 times my football knowledge. I enjoy it a lot.

Some forget 2 QBs went down for him to get his shot!! almost like Warner, it was destiny. He also played behind the best Oline in the NFL, and the best run game- with a top 3 wr to throw to etc. Doesn't get much better for a QB. We will see what Dak is and does when things aren't so Rosy, but so far, have to like what he has done.

Marinelli is overrated? Go sit in timeout.
Yes. He's overrated. He's responsible for a defense that's ranked #32, but please tell me about how he's so good because he's had a few good seasons like 100 years ago.

Cowboy Defensive Rankings under Marinelli
2014: 15th (Points) 19th (Yards)
2015: 16th (Points) 17th (Yards)
2016: 5th (Points) 14th (Yards)

Cowboys Defensive Rankings before Marinelli
2013: 26th (Points) 32nd (Yards)
2012: 24th (Points) 19th (Yards)
2011: 16th (Points) 14th (Yards)

Would you like to reevaluate your stance? That's without considering his track record in Chicago. Your defensive talent has never been average under him. Yet, your defense has finished about average or better every year under Marinelli. Basically, your defense has overachieved under Marinelli.

Ditto. I've been obsessing over the college game since 2001 but I knew jack squat about the NFL until I found this place. Now I still know jack squat about the NFL but I know where to look to find out what I need to know!

It's also nice that no one here is a dick. Even that Cowboys troll is really funny.

I still believe he is a good QB. Even with everything going in his favor he still runs an NFL offense. He still makes reads, knows when to run, recognises defensive alignments.

To put it in perspective, how do you think Keenum would do starting for the Cowboys?

I think Marinelli is greatly aided by a ball control offense. He is a decent DC, but everything has to be put into context.

Marinell is the real deal. One of the top DL Coaches in the NFL and a very good DC. He was highly successful with Lovie in Chicago without a good offense. They had a top 5 defense in two of his three years as DC.

Marinelli is certainly aided by Dallas's offense, but that alone doesn't account for their defense overachieving.

Average. Yay. I don't celebrate average, and excuses are tools for the inept. Overrated.

Getting average production out of a unit with shitty talent is overachieving. You gotta give the man the right tools if you want top production. Hell, he got top production last year out of a mediocre unit. So again, you're wrong.

Meh Dak reminds me a bit like Kap or RG3 in the sense when there is a year of tape on him his weaknesses will be exposed and exploited. Great first year which is easy to pull off, now tie few seasons together behind it.

I will give him he does have a hell of a o line, running game and we'd to throw to but injuries do happen. I.e the Whiners offense.

I just went back and looked at the Cowboy's Roster from that Year. Now in the Video, IF I'm reading the Jersey number right ( A combo of my vision and poor video quality!) That was #31 which is FS George Teague!(y) IF it's #81 it's WR Rocket Ismail!(y);) " Old Eyes!"

It was a win-win for both Dallas and Dak.

Dak landed in an almost ideal situation to set up a rookie starter to be successful but he made the most of it.
He had a QB friendly head coach and excluding the QB, the Cowboys offense is probably top 5 in overall talent.
Note: I agree with jrry32 that defensively Dallas was below average in talent. IMO bottom 10 in overall talent.

Goff landed in in a very bad situation for a rookie starter to be successful. I put more blame on the coaching than the talent. The overall performance of the offense was just plain UGLY. The coaching/system was so bad I think it is hard to get a true gage on the quality of some of the players on the Rams offense. When you have four top 10 draft draft picks on offense that underwhelm while conversely all of their first round picks on Defense flourish along with significant contributions from many second and third day picks on defense that easily tells me it was the system and not scouting.

I think most QBs do well behind that line and run game. I think Keenum would have done quite well.
