only 134 out of 2200 brands rated as being sufficient in supplying your pet with proper vitamins and minerals and leaving bad ingredients out of their food. i'm in need of some education after reading this as my dog's brand (beneful- healthy weight / Purina) is not 1 of the 134

I like Beneful. It tastes good and fills me up.

The wife brought home some cans of Beneful and I had her take them back because I'd read negative reviews about that brand.

My Beagle loves FreshPet. It comes in a tube and has to be refrigerated. At Martin's here in Maryland, it can be found in the pet food aisle in a refrigerator. It's a bit pricey but the dog loves it.

My dog doesn't care for dry food so I'm always looking for different types of canned dog food. Lately I've tried Paul Newman's brand and Homestyle Stew by Variety.

My dogs eat better than me. Blue Wilderness, $65 a bag. Great ingredients too. Great coats, great energy, no health problems.
That review website seemed to favor only two brands. Gotta wonder if they're somehow linked to them.

They deserve to.(y)

Before we got our new pup, Mari did a lot of looking into this - we ended up with Origen. So far so good, (but one month is a small sample size).

(Mods - may want to move this to the dog thread).

My dog loves Pizza Hut, Dominos, Chex Mix pretzels, raw carrots, and anything with cheese on it.:D
Whatever you do, don't feed them Science Diet. They'll end up at the vet with kidney stones and the like.

Ours eats Diamond brand lamb and rice. The breeder recommended it and it seems to be treating him well. Good looking little dickhead of a Lab. Seriously - he's a major dickhead. I say that affectionately of course. Did I mention he's a dickhead? His favorite trick is to run into the middle of a family at the beach and take a big crap. Seriously - he will often hold it until the opportunity presents itself. I half expect him to kind of make the "tada" gesture when he's done. We try to run down away from people with him but sometimes - no dice. He also likes to pee and crap on sand castles - the newer the better.

My wife was so proud of our little 14 pound dog. The Vet said she'd never seen such perfect weight, healthy dog.

Years ago I researched the worlds longest live dogs and found out they all ate real meat and vegetables. Every Saturday I crock pot a chicken for my dog. I drain the broth for our soups. We give our dog chicken meat mixed with vegetables like steamed green beans, zucchini, and an occasional piece of steak, a cherry tomato, almond, or pecan. He also like chunks of raw carrots.

Twice daily, we him give a little chunk of yellow cheese with a multivitamin hidden inside so our little dog won't get diarrhea. The cheese solution works better then the VET's prescription diarrhea medicine, and the dog loves it.

I like X's solution Blue Wilderness. It's an excellent dog food. Thanks 503 for sharing your Dog Dork story... Some of the best people I know are dogs.

Check it out. It has to be refrigerated like a lot of premium dog foods.

I don't have a dog, I'm a cat guy so I will tell you this story.

Many, many years ago out of kindness I took the last cat from a litter as a favor to a friend. When I say friend I mean a hot chick I was occasionally banging. But you probably figured that out before I said anything LOL.

So the reason this little guy was the last was because he was scrawny, really scrawny. He was healthy but skinny. As a joke I named him Rambo because he was the opposite of a steroid infused Stallone in the movie. The second one was in theaters IIRC.

So several days later it came up among a group of people, most of whom I did not know, and someone said essentially "Bil-jak makes cat food you should try it". Lo and behold the grocery store I shopped at carried it so I got some. Rambo liked it so I kept getting it, and soon that's all I was getting because he preferred it so much over anything else I got.

Long story short Rambo grew up to be (at one point) 18 pounds, and he was rock solid. I watched him beat a possums ass once, he was that much of a bad ass. My brothers room mate tangled with him once and was messing with him and just as I was gong to say "better knock that shit off" Rambo got him with a wicked right to the forearm. Years later he still had the scar LOL.

So I recommend the stuff. I have no idea where it ranks on the list that was posted but I have recommended it to people many times.

Rambo lived a long and great life, most of it with access to woods and streams and rivers. His specialty was birds.

@CGI_Ram does that stuff help keep you regular? Mebbe I'll check it out. :)

I think this is one of those "fight club" things and it's really you doing this and there really is no dog.

I have great respect for Ramsey and every other member here who puts in so much thought, effort, and love into taking care of their pets. These little creatures depend on us for everything. I take note of how people treat those they have power over, whether humans or animals.

You guys have it very easy. I have an eclectus parrot and they can only eat non vitamin enriched organic food. All natural only. They are known as the hardest parrots to feed properly. You wouldn't believe how well my boy eats.

Every 48 days I have to make him a new batch of muffins. Some of the ingredients are 3 different kinds of flour, sweet potato, pomegranates, many different kinds of seeds, unfiltered apple juice, cinnamon... and much more. I had to buy an industrial grade mixer just to keep up. I freeze them and he gets one per day along with a whole bunch of other shit you wouldn't believe.

My fish do pretty well too. I buy much of their food at the local seafood market. It's funny when I ask for just 2 live clams and a crab claw. If the guy behind the counter hasn't helped me before I tell them that I'm on a very strict diet. Hahahaha
