Colin Cowherd said Wednesday on The Herd that the Los Angeles Rams should do whatever they can to land a franchise quarterback – even if that means trading up everything they have for the top overall pick in the draft. “If you trust your eyes, you trust your scouts, you trust your acumen, you trust your history, you trust your work ethic, and you think Carson Wentz is the guy, if I was the Rams, I would move to the No. 1 pick and wouldn’t be guilty for a second.”

OK! I get it! But If the "Empty the Bank account!" to go after this QB they better be right!! And I hope they are!
But it's really hard for me to endorse spending a lot of Draft Capital to move that Far up the Board for a QB, With the other Needs we have too! ( ie. WR, Center, and DB!)

Titans GM Jon Robinson said it would take a "king's ransom" to acquire the No. 1 overall pick.

Robinson added it "would take a substantial amount of picks" to convince him to move down. A team could be interested in jumping the Browns at No. 2 if they are dead set on either Cal QB Jared Goff or North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz, but neither player is worth the draft capital it would take to jump Cleveland. Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil is the "odds-on favorite" to be the Titans' pick at No. 1 overall. :admin:

I'll keep my Rams King's ransom myself (if it were my call:icare:) & go a different route. Misses are very very common with these alleged next franchised QB prospects.

I don't personally want them to trade up to #1, it's going to be an RGKnee like haul. Target Dallas and work on that and if not Baltimore at 6. But I agree a trade up must happen we can't sit back at 15 and hope the QB solution presents itself to us.

Tennessee is stupid. They're going to price themselves right out of the market and end up with a LT that may or may not pan out.

I think the Chargers are going to be the smart ones and realize that there's a haul to be had, but the RG3 haul was Washington OVERPAYING, not the new benchmark.

If anything, the Rams would know that. RG3 is a FA with very little interest and the Rams have numerous roster additions contributing due to that bevy of picks.

Tennessee will make all this noise about wanting a King's Ransom... and wait until the end to turn in their card when really they will have wanted to trade down and fleeced some dumb team. Well, Fisher and Snead aren't dumb. Cleveland will take a QB and more and more I'm thinking it will be Goff.

Honestly, I think Fisher and Snead will be okay with either if the price isn't beyond the pale.

The possibility will depend on San Diego, not Tennessee because it looks like Tennessee is hoping to win the lottery... and they have about as much chance of that as they do of winning the Super Bowl, which is to say, virtually none...

Cowherd is right.
We are in the place where we can't go forward without consistent, even great QB play. I only want the Rams to go after Goff or Wentz if the scouts, Snead, Fisher believe in him. If they do, Katie bar the doors, and sell the farm..GO GET HIM!

While I agree with most of what Cowherd is saying, I wouldn't trade the farm for the 1st overall pick... And I don't think it'll take a RG3 ransom.

Teams learned from that debacle and those words from the Titan's gm is simply posturing. He is trying to squeeze as much out of a trading partner as possible, you think he is going to come out and undersell?

What will it take? I don't know, but maybe something like our first and second this year (we keep the other one) and next year's first and third, or something like that.

I wouldn't mind a trade, as our team is a young, talented team, so trading some premium picks is fine. I think it's time we use our draft capitol and finally address our qb issue. Once we have Wentz on board, we are legit a good center, tight end, and wide receiver away from perennial playoff football!

Even worst case IF the Rams gave up three round 1 picks they'd be fine. Young roster with lots of talent, nice cap situation, and they'd still have their other picks and UDFA to round out the depth they need.

Rams would be fine. Better than fine actually. They'd have their QB and would be busy winning a lot of games and making the playoffs and keeping this year's round 2 picks would translate into some nice players to help him out.

:coach:No!

You do not trade away all those priceless valuable top draft selections under these circumstances. Rams have done very well when it has had first round picks between 10th & 15th area of the draft. They have selected Gurley, Donald, Brockers & Quinn in this area & I like our running odds here. 3/4 of those picks have played in the pro bowl. You have no ideal what extremely talented young players could have been added but instead traded away for ONE lone QB projected prospect.

I have done very well over my lifetime & learned its costly to run with the pack mentality in what many seem to think to be dire straits @ QB presently just may be a totally different circumstance a year from now. But what do I know I old worn out & don't run anymore anyway.

Rams have some real good upcoming players & could improve the defense in several different major units. The defense has taken a few hits with the loss of starters CB & Deep Safety but they are far from life threatening. The LB'ing unit could be dramatically better with Ogletree/Barron/Ayers not seen here since the 70's 80's units. The overall depth in our secondary is still talented & young we have a good amount of good young prospects @ deep safety. The DE's cadre stands to rebound with Quinn/Coples/Hayes/Sims/Westbrooks/Longacre. We have two of the best starting young interior DL'ers in the NFL. This defense could be a serious menace to other NFL teams.

The offense needs some improvement in WR's & pass catching TE but the OL looking better than in over a decade. The best looking RB since 99 when #28 arrived. No reason to stop the infusion of top talent momentum with the loss of those future 2016 & 2017 top selections. Its still a 53 player team sport :palm:.

He is right. Maybe not - whatever it takes - but they do need to invest serious capital in the position - and the capital they have to use is draft pics.

I've said it before - I'll say it again

I think Cowherd is right too.

It appears we're trying to be like the Jets..

They had a better OL, better WR group, and overall better defense and QB play. We're trying to build a team like that with a better RB.....but even that team didn't make the playoffs....in a weaker division...

So the team it appears we're striving to be....is still not a playoff team.

Get a QB.

Well, first of all I need to declare that I'm not a big fan of trading up, generally speaking. Particularly when this FO has demonstrated good ability to find talent throughout the draft.

However...

I think a franchise QB qualifies as an exception to the rule. Particularly when there is no above average QB already on the roster, even though old. A Romo, Palmer, Rivers type.

So I've come around to favoring the trade up to the Ravens strategy. Even to the Cowboys, if deemed absolutely necessary. But that's about it for me.

Bonifay echoes my long held sentiment. The #1 overall from 15 is simply a bridge too far.

The good news is that I suspect that that trade up to 6 or even 4 might be a 50-50 possibility.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher a fan of Carson Wentz and Jared Goff
Posted on March 23, 2016 by Vincent Bonsignore

It probably doesn’t come as any surprise – especially given the Rams need at quarterback and the focus and effort they’ll put it breaking down the top quarterback prospects in next month’s draft – but Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has begun the process of digging into North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz and Cal’s Jared Goff, the two highest-rated quarterbacks in the draft.

Like so many others, Fisher is impressed.

“Wentz is obviously very smart. I don’t think he’s ever gotten a B in his life. He’s got the leadership qualities. And from a football standpoint he’s got all the traits,” Fisher said. “The am strength and decision making ability and he can make all the throws. The same thing with Goff, too. Not every quarterback coming out is going to have that same personality. All their personality types are different. But both of them are perfect for the NFL and can get in the huddle and lead and win games.”

Fisher shed some light into what he zones in on when breaking down a quarterback, and both Goff and Wentz seem to check off the boxes Fisher most values.

“You have to take the mobility into consideration. And then the arm strength and decision making,” Fisher said. “You have to look and see what they did, what the body of work was. What system they played in, what they were required to do. And then, if it’s not pro style, how far long are they and how far away are they, as well?”

That last part seems especially applicable to Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch, who is regarded as the third best quarterback in the draft but faces a considerable learning curve adjusting from the Tigers spread offense to a pro-style system. Lynch has potential, but the question is how long will it take to make the transition.

If he ever does.

It’s still early in the process, but the sense is while the Rams value Wentz and Goff as elite prospects, Lynch is more of a work-in-progress development prospect.

The problem for the Rams is, while Lynch might be available when they pick at 15, it’s a long shot Goff or Wentz will be there. Which means they’ll have to trade up to get a shot at one of the other.

Or maybe we stand pat for Cook, Lynch, Hogan,
brissett, or cordale jones....maybe

Asking to be on Hard Knocks makes MUCH more sense if the Rams are trading up for a QB.

That said, I'm so turned around about all this that it wouldn't surprise me that Tennessee would want 3 #1s plus additional picks and Snisher will just say "F it. We'll just double down on the D this year..."

Seriously, it's not just me, right? We're all in the dark on this, yeah?

It's just me? Okay...

Tenn will be to high a price but we will trade for sure in the top 3-6 to get the left over signal caller. If it happens to be Wentz you can take this prophecy to the bank!
