Country Music Fans

not sure how many of you may be out there. It's one of my favorites. My question to you is this...how do you feel about this new style of country that's been coming out the last several years compared to the old greats? Now I'm only 30, so I'm not huge on Hank, but I do like some old school Merle and some George Jones. But my favorites have to be Garth and George Strait. To me, country music has always touched me, it was songs about my kinda folks and our struggles and stories. Today, this "Pop country" is complete garbage to me. Every single "artist" coming out is another dime-a-dozen model with a solid voice, singin songs they didn't write and leading bands that they don't play in. Now, I'm not all out against not writing your own songs ALL THE TIME. Guys like Kris Kristopherson and Keith Whitley were both more known for the songs they wrote than the songs they sang. But damn, these new folks are just posers to me. The only ones I can stand are Blake Shelton and Eric Church....what are your thoughts?

Agree completely.
The pop wave of country is garbage. Terrible.
The great bands are few.
Church, Shelton and Jamie Johnston are a few that keep it going.

Even in the 90's and 00's there were great bands like Clint Black, Alan Jackson and Dwight Yoakam.

I live in Blue Grass country. Country has grown on me. I've had the opportunity to see Sawyer Brown perform but I've also seen Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy Ray is still adored by middle aged women with a healthy physique.

I like a lot of music but the stuff with rap lyrics is pretty terrible.

Yea, Jamie Johnston is good too, but a few years back he did our local fair and my company at the time was responsible for providing the musicians with furniture to sit on. He was a complete prick for no reason. Not to me but to several other people in the room. Changed my feelings on him immediately. There was a chick named Kelly Pickler that was there too and she was sweet as could be, and not to damn bad to look at either lol

A police officer in our town used to be Luke Bryan's sound guy. All I've ever heard of Luke is good things. He did adopt his teenage nephew. I'm not a big fan of his music, he's got some good ones but he's a bit too pop at times. Luke might be the nicest guy in country music.

I'm 34, and I grew up on: Straight, Yoakum, John Anderson, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn, Aaron Tippin, etc. I couldn't name a single current artist except Blake Shelton. I saw a youtube video where they played SIX current songs with the same riff in the beginning, only changed up slightly. It's POP. Plus, every damn song is about a dirt road. When did dirt roads become so interesting?

I'm not big on a lot of the new stuff coming out but the entire Zac brown band is really talented.

Can't say I like country too much either. Agree with everyone on here, too much pop type country today. Only ones I really listen to are Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Eric Chruch, and Kenny Chesney. I'm sure there are a couple other good ones that I can't think of but not much of the country type.

Yea, I can get into most any kind of music except a lot of modern pop country. My wife loves it though...along with her "show", Nashville. Perhaps that is the demographic?

I very much enjoy the standards of country like Hank, Kristoferson, Cash, Merle, Willie, Waylon, Marty Robins, etc. I especially like what I refer to as "cowboy style" country, as well as even older folk styles such as the great Jimmie Rodgers and the singing Carter family and what I guess could be described as "mountain music". Bluegrass is a lot of fun too. I like to say that it is the heavy metal of country music.

As kids we grew up with Hee Haw on TV...Buck and Roy, pickin' and grinnin'. They don't make entertainment like that anymore.

If you ever have a chance to get to Nashville, take the time to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame as well as the Grand Ol' Opry. They are definately worth seeing.

I used to be entirely anit-country music to an almost comical extent. I've grown to enjoy some of it though. Brad Paisley's got some good stuff, but I'm not a fan of too much of his 'goofy' stuff. Great musician though.

One guy I really like a lot is Gary Allen and he's playing here in a couple months, I may actually take the plunge and see it live...paying money for country is something I never thought I'd do.

But largely agree, the pop stuff has got to go. It's just garbage.

Count me in with the used to be anti-country crowd. The wife likes country, though so I hear plenty of it.

Because of my very eclectic tastes, I've grown to appreciate songs that require solid musicianship and really good musicians.

Hate that honky tonk stuff whether it goes pop, rock or country...doesn't really matter to me. Same idiotic chorus that amounts to the very stereotypes the south is trying to get over. And I'm not even from the South, I just live here now.

I'm not a dancer either.
Dig a little deeper into Waylon. He's one of my all time favs.
He's bad ass.

Many don't know this, but he played bass for Buddy Holly.
He had a ticket to the plane that killed Holly, Vallens, and the Big Bopper. He gave it up.

His words before he gave up his ticket was " I hope your plane crashes". Waylon was joking, of course, but he regretted that joke till he died.
