COMMENTARY | The Washington Redskins should be paying very close attention to the Cleveland Browns as they search for a new offensive coordinator.
According to recent media reports, the Browns are talking with former Redskins' offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan about a potential job opportunity. If Shanahan ends up in Cleveland, it would make perfect sense for both franchises to get together and strike a deal involving quarterback Kirk Cousins.
Here's why Cousins joining forces with Shanahan in Cleveland would be an ideal fit for both the Redskins and the Browns.
Why the Redskins should be eager to reunite Cousins and Shanahan in Cleveland
The Browns are the ideal trade partner as the Redskins attempt to get the best possible draft pick compensation in exchange for their talented young backup quarterback.
Courtesy of the infamous Trent Richardson trade with the Indianapolis Colts, the Browns are armed with an additional first round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. Although the Redskins chances of getting a first-rounder in exchange for Cousins are slim, perhaps the Browns could be willing to part ways with their lower first-round pick if they hire Kyle Shanahan as the team's next offensive coordinator.
Cousins' value to the Browns would be higher than any other team, due to the potential presence of the coordinator who's provided tutelage to the young quarterback from the beginning of his NFL career. So if there's one team that could deal a first for Cousins, it could be the Browns if they hire Shanahan.
Even if the Browns aren't willing to sacrifice a first in return for one of the game's hottest young quarterback prospects, they still own some other draft picks that could be appealing to the Redskins.
Cleveland's second-rounder is only one spot below the one that belong to the Redskins, so that pick could be enticing to Washington. The Browns also possess an additional third round draft pick that was previously owned by the Pittsburgh Steelers. With that pick in hand, maybe the Browns would be willing to deal their own third-rounder for Cousins.
The Redskins would be sitting pretty if they're able to acquire any of the previously mentioned picks from the Browns for the rights to Cousins. Hopefully, Shanahan goes to Cleveland so the potentially appeasing trade on paper can morph into reality.

Owners of the fourth overall selection in this year's NFL Draft, the Browns could easily end up with the likes of Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater or Blake Bortles.
