http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13546500/washington-redskins-consider-moving-robert-griffin-iii

High-ranking Washington Redskinsfront office officials and coaches want to move on from quarterback Robert Griffin III, but are meeting resistance from team ownership, per team and league sources.

The Redskins even have had trade conversations about Griffin with a handful of NFL teams, per sources, but have found no interest and it remains unclear if ownership would allow Washington to trade him, per team and league sources.

But it is becoming increasingly apparent that Griffin has lost his starting quarterback job and, depending on the events and conversations in the coming days, possibly his roster spot. Outside of ownership, there has been a groundswell of support from a strong segment of football people within the organization to change quarterbacks, but there is a question about whether they have the authority to move on from Griffin.

Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan was hired this past offseason to build and rebuild the team, so he looms as a possible "X" factor in any big personnel decision that involves Griffin as teams trim their rosters from 90 to 53 players over the next week. McCloughan's ability to produce a resolution that all sides can live with now looms large.

One of the main issues now for the Redskins and other teams is Griffin's contract, which is guaranteed for $16.1 million in 2016 for injury only. When the Redskins announced they picked up the fifth-year option in Griffin's contract in April, many expected it to tie him to the franchise through 2016. Instead, it has had the opposite effect.

Washington knows that if it plays Griffin again -- and the NFL still has not cleared him to return from action from a recent concussion -- the Redskins cannot cut an injured player. In addition Washington risks him being hurt and having that $16.1 million for next season guaranteed. The same contract figure has helped scare off any teams that could potentially have any interest in trading for Griffin.

But even if ownership prevails and convinces other football people within the organization to keep Griffin, he is not expected to hold on to his starting quarterback job. The Redskins are determined to start a different quarterback than Griffin on opening day against the Miami Dolphins, and Griffin's time as the starter now appears over. The more significant question is whether his time in Washington also is.

He is as good as gone imo. The whole concussion thing where he was cleared then uncleared... They're posturing already. The foreskins just want to get out of it without owing that 16.1 million due on injury. Question is, who makes a waiver claim on Robert Griffin of the third?

Report: Football people want RG3 out of Washington, Snyder says no

Robert Griffin III is reportedly remaining in Washington only because owner Dan Snyder is overruling the football people who want to depart with the quarterback.

Front office officials and coaches want to move on from Griffin but are meeting resistance from ownership, according to ESPN.

The report says the team has talked about trading Griffin, but there’s been no interest. That’s no surprise: Griffin has a guaranteed salary of $3.3 million this year and would be owed a whopping $16.2 million next year if he suffered a severe injury. There’s no way for any team to justify committing that kind of money to a player who has played as poorly as Griffin over the last two years.

From all indications, coach Jay Gruden — who spent most of the offseason insisting that Griffin would be the starter — has lots any confidence he ever had in Griffin as a quarterback. Both Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy have far outplayed Griffin this preseason. General Manager Scot McCloughan, who was hired this year, has no particular loyalty to Griffin either.

But Snyder has loved Griffin since the team traded up in the 2012 draft to get him, and Snyder apparently isn’t willing to let go. And that’s the only thing keeping Griffin in Washington.

Snyder deserves to have to pay him $16 million and get nothing out of him...Geez, makes me wonder how he ever got to be as wealthy as he is...On top of paying him that much money, they lose millions off their available cap and waste a roster spot...

Hmmm.
Sit him and pay him $3M or watch him get injured and pay him $16M?

That's a tough one.

I kind of wonder if this would have turned out differently without the major injury...

Sure. But since before he was drafted there were questions about whether he was big enough to play QB in the NFL, especially with his style which seemed to invite injury, many were predicting injury and arguing that his effective career had a good chance of being short. Turned out to be one season long as a quality player.

Do you guys remember a thread where we hypothesized the possibility of the Rams acquiring RGIII? You know, when Bradford was hurt and we needed someone, anyone? The irony of that occurring was epic!

In a way it's too bad we now have Foles because I would have loved, just loved to see the media go crazy if we were able to acquire him. But that is all I would have liked about it.

Don't want him, don't need him thank gawd and I can't see any other team wanting him, barring some unforeseen injury (like all injuries are foreseen!)

You think Chip Kelly would put up with that selfish attitude?

Oof. Not me.

Good point. Too many egos. I was just thinking about how crazy he is taking chances with unsuccessful players.

RG3 must be a mess in the locker room. Because... While he's not played great in a while, he's not exactly toast yet.

To give up on him... He must be a head case.

Snyder is a fucking idiot. He's single handedly keeping that team in the tank.
