Hopefully Spruce will be available next week. Both temporary losses, but Gaines makes for a bigger problem imo. I realize anything can happen on any given gameday, at least it's the 49'ers we face week one and not Seattle. jmo.

Spruce won't play next week, but Fisher made it seem like he was planning him to be on the roster though.

To me....
Barnes, Robinson, Saffold,
No worries. Fisher will just Gurley 60 times a game to keep the defense off the field.

Which is exactly what fisher was planning on doing anyways.
The coaches did a good job managing Gurley last year.
Should give some credit where it is due.
As an aside if Gurley was getting 15 carries a game and it was a 50-50 run pass mix people would bitch he wasn't getting enough touches.

This^ is not a good way to start the Season! Players better Step up!
Good news for my boy Quick. 2 TDs in the opener for Quick. I called 2 for Austin in the opener in another thread. 4 TDs from the WRs Monday night. That'll work.

Bit of an overreaction here, seems like. It's not going to sink us. They're short term injuries (as long as reports are true).

Losing gaines hurts. For my money, he's a better CB than Tru, plain and simple (and I do believe we kept the wrong guy, no matter what the other one cost). However, he's been injury prone since he's come back, and that's not news, and doesn't warrant the kind of shock I'm seeing here.

Coop is decent, but he's got his whole career ahead of him, and there's 3 or 4 wrs I'm more comfortable with at this point, playing a large role.

Regardless, injuries happen, and it would be a blessing if this was all we had to deal with. Remember, worse news is always around the corner! ;)

I was worried about Gaines, but I suppose it's good news that we'll be seeing him back in not too long. 1.5 weeks of it will be in preseason so the key is getting him back healthy and ready to rock and roll. But yeah... Big dropoff from him to whomever so it's a hit no doubt about it.

Coop being out sucks too, but it's not as big a hit from a dropoff perspective since he's yet to really hit his stride. Agree with @kurtfaulk in that Spruce will be fine in the slot in his absence and hopefully when Coop returns they'll have a nice 1-2 punch there with possession and chain moving type plays.

Not gonna happen. Fisher will play Sensabaugh.

Well, so far Sensabaugh has only showcased that he is very good at chasing the play and when Gaines went down, Hill was the first one off the bench against the Broncos.

Pharoh Cooper (shoulder) will be out 'a few weeks,' says Jeff Fisher

IRVINE, Calif. -- Pharoh Cooper, solidified as the No. 3 receiver, and E.J. Gaines, basically locked in as the No. 2 cornerback, suffered injuries in the Los Angeles Rams' 17-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on Saturday that could keep them out for the start of the regular season.

Cooper injured a shoulder on an acrobatic catch and will be out "for a few weeks," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said during Sunday's availability. Gaines, who missed all of last season with a foot injury, suffered a quad strain, and Fisher said he "may miss some time."

Fisher said Cooper will "probably" miss the Sept. 12 regular-season opener, but wouldn't specify with Gaines, who was previously set back with a hamstring injury.

Starting left tackle Greg Robinson and cornerback Troy Hill, an outside candidate to crack the final 53-man roster, went through the league's concussion protocol in Denver late Saturday night. Both are expected to miss the final preseason game in Minnesota on Thursday, but Fisher said they're both "way ahead of schedule" and are "not having any residual effects."

Fisher would not comment on rookie quarterback Jared Goff having a postgame X-ray that revealed a bruised tailbone, the result of a vicious hit by Broncos linebacker Vontarrius Dora. But Fisher said Goff participated in a walk-through on Sunday, as did receiver Bradley Marquez, who injured his right ankle on a screen pass during the Aug. 20 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cooper injured his shoulder while making a play on Goff's pass in Saturday's second quarter, a play that saw Cooper run across the middle, extend his left arm, tip the ball in the air and secure a 19-yard catch on third down. A multidimensional receiver who can also help out of the backfield and in punt coverage, Cooper is expected to play a major role in the Rams' offense this season.

"I don't know how long [Cooper will be out], but it looks like he'll probably miss the opener," Fisher said. "And we'll just see how quickly he can come back from that."

Gaines played in his first preseason game on Aug. 20 and ran with the first-team defense Saturday.

The 24-year-old had a standout rookie season in 2014 and is expected to start opposite primary corner Trumaine Johnson in 2016. But Gaines has struggled to stay on the field during training camp, first with an ailment to his hamstring and now another one to his quad. It could all stem from a long recovery from foot surgery.

"I'm hoping this is the last thing that comes up," Fisher said of Gaines. "He was extremely pivotal in his rookie year as a starter for us."

The recent ailments may force Fisher to carry an extra receiver or cornerback for the Sept. 12 opener against the San Francisco 49ers, a game that will be part of ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage. Teams must trim their rosters to 75 players by 4 p.m. PT on Tuesday and 53 players by 4 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Offensive lineman Rob Havenstein, who had been dealing with a foot injury, was recently taken off the physically unable to perform list and is expected to practice with the team over the next couple of days. Rookie receiver Nelson Spruce, who sprained his knee during an impressive performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 13, has been running and "may be close" to practicing with the team.

Despite his absence, Spruce still seemingly has a solid chance to crack the final roster.

"There's a lot to still consider," Fisher said. "We coveted Nelson out of the draft and we saw some things that we really liked, and then we saw them in the game. Unfortunately, he's missed time, so we're just going to have to address that this week."

That is not always true . This makes it easier on cuts. Gives The Rams more time to let a couple spots play out.

Your going to have injuries, and it's better nurse them right.

When do injuries count against the 53 ??

Hopefully Troy Hill passes concussion protocol because he needs to start in place of Gaines

I really like the way Troy Hill tackles.!He looks like a nice find.

Joyner seems like the player teams pick on. Coty Sensabaugh is not as bad as Ram fans think. Gaines was going to start over Tru Johnson last year.

I'm not sure when injuries count against the 53, But the thing that scares me the most is any player on the PUP list at the beginning of the Season MUST sit out the 1st 6 Weeks!!

Injuries happen...Is this Pharoh's second one though? I expected EJ to have a tough time coming back from lis franc in one season....
It really makes you wonder if his lisfranc has fully healed, or if his body is somehow compensating for the foot not quite being 100% yet, leading to poor running form, muscle imbalances, etc (leading to soft tissue injuries)...
exactly....without knowing his exact injury now, I'd almost guarantee all his latest injuries are to the opposite side of his body...

Lisfranc is a bad injury and recent history is showing that you can not rush the recovery. Too me we have been pushing him too early because of other decisions.
another statement I have to endorse...It really looked like GW wanted Coty or Joyner to be able to lock down the opposite cb position...and they have looked terrible while auditioning....Joyner seems to have been clearly outplayed not only by Sensabaugh, but a FA pickup Hill....

.Give Tony Hill a shot...................Hopefully Troy Hill passes concussion protocol because he needs to start in place of Gaines
This injury is TERRIBLE at this time, but it's the best one because it doesn't involve his lower body....I do hope he can continue his physical form of play...Dude has been hitting, which had been a presumed weakness due to his size. Troy Hill is Les Snead's latest, bestest find....Calling it here, Troy is week 1 starter...Over Joyner & Sensabaugh....And Sensabaugh should start in the slot....And Troy never gives his spot back....

Loss of CB Gaines & Hill will surely give bubble CB's many opportunities. Our forum has spent much time in many posts in discussions of concerns of our secondary & up to now I have been comforted with what I know this team had in its roster, but my comfort was that we had EJ & Troy healthy. Dismal 2016 pre season of 3rd & 4th corners (Joyner & Sensabaugh) along with loosing what I believed were our #2 & #6 corners Things have changed.

Will Fisher protect our top remaining 3 corners (Johnson/Joyner/Sensabaugh) & go with the last 3 CB's on the roster(Marcus Roberson, Jabriel Washington & Mike Jordan)? Don't look for any corners to be cut. Fisher brought in a boat load of safeties most strong safety types i.e. Jordan Lomax who best hit thus far in pre seaon was on Troy Hill, Rohan Gaines, Jordan Kovacs & Mike Coputo. Washington is a rare mixers of all the DB positions. I would look for 3 safety cuts.

LOLOLOLOL :mrburnsevil:

Yeah...he acted like he did something there too....
Joyner...hmmmm, I think he could use some work, but yeah, I'd sit him...I hope Troy Hill's injury isn't serious. Sensabaugh definitely needs some work, and I hope he plays. I actually see some improvement...Coty has a chance....
Great opportunity for Washington & Jordan to get some time...and see what they can do...I'd let Joyner & Coty take the first 2 drives....then roll with those guys....

Tru shouldn't touch the field...He isn't going full bore anyways...

Cooper's loss hurts:cry: with the previous loss of him in camp for a week slowed him down & now hit with another setback for what was our biggest player improvement to our 2016 WR cadre unit. Cooper goes with two other pre season WR injuries of slots Bradley Marquez & Nelson Spruce:rant:. I would look for my other two favorite WR's Austin Hill & Paul McRoberts :shades:to use these 3 WR injuries to what I believe are serious final roster material to present a very good argument to Snead & Fisher to win one spot that might be open.

This team has talent, but very poor depth. We can afford few if any injuries. Let's hope they heal up fast and we manage to stay pretty healthy otherwise. A few long-term injuries to key players and we could be sunk.

EDIT - The fact Gaines is somehow sustaining a new minor lower body injury every week, despite never even playing a full game, is worrisome. It really makes you wonder if his lisfranc has fully healed, or if his body is somehow compensating for the foot not quite being 100% yet, leading to poor running form, muscle imbalances, etc (leading to soft tissue injuries)...
I agree... Can Gaines somehow be the Sam Bradford of Corner Backs?

The loss of OLT Greg Robinson to a concussion is never good & the last thing we need right now after he has shown his brain has gotten broke in & the gears grinding & working well together is to have a concussion monkey wrench thrown into the brain crankcase.

Added into the mental & physical molestation's that GRob's top back up Darrell Williams underwent for several hours last Saturday night by the Broncos 3rd & 4th string LB'ers. The next listed Ram OLT reserve Isaiah Battle saw only a handful of plays @ right OT & is noticeable gimpy from a unsound painful knee. The only left standing OLT who is not already starting is UDFA Pace Murphy.

Strange thing was Fisher let these molestation's of OLT Darrell Williams continue for the entire game without stopping it. Why did Fisher & Boudreau do this & not give Williams some relief. Anyone have any thought son this? Pace Murphy (who has looked technically very sound thus far) did not come to rescue Goff & Williams:huh:.

So presently the Rams have 3 damaged OLT's going into this last pre season game & going into the beginning regular season.I have know ideal who will start against the Vikings?? Have any thoughts here? Would you take a chance & start NFL's most injured OL'er over the last five yrs Rodger Saffold take the helm @ OLT? Would you let Darrell Williams get molested all over again? Turn the OLT post over to rookie Pace Murphy for the entire game?

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but too me it sounds like unfortunatly Spruce might be cut. Which makes little sense to me, If he were to be cut, I would think he'd make it too the final cut.

Fishers quote...

"We coveted Nelson out of the draft and we saw some things that we really liked, and then we saw them in the game. Unfortunately, he's missed time, so we're just going to have to address that this week."
