Ok folks..have an old (7-8years) HP laptop. Both wife and I use it. In the last few days whenever she tries to log on, the damn thing freezes up and have to restart it. But it works fine when I use it.

Tried to add another user and tells me user can't be found. Should I just delete her "accounts and start from the beginning?

Based on what you've described, that would probably do it. Just secure any files she wants before doing so.

If I were to try to figure out why it's happening; does she run or load any apps that you do not? It could be one of those causing the problem.

You can try the canned air. Just blow out every laptop orifice, and run a chkdsk/f in command prompt.

Yeah it's impressive you managed to keep that thing going for 7+ years.

As others said, I recommend backing up your important files first. If you still want to salvage that laptop and you're comfortable enough to tinker what's inside, you can open the inside of your laptop and try unseating and reseating the RAM. From my experiences with computers freezing randomly, that usually does the trick, especially when an app is running Flash (thank goodness it is dropping numerous support)

Side note: the malware only affected 32-bit systems.

@RhodyRams - I'd recommend you wipe your HDD and install a fresh copy of Windows. Over time, your OS loses integrity with all the updating and installing and uninstalling and deleting that goes on. A fresh copy of Windows - especially since you already have all your documents backed up to an external HDD - will help everything run smoothly for a few more years.
