wifey seems to have ruined another computer. Hew 2 year old HP is giving her the message " Windows failed to load and my be corrupted"

Pretty sure she is running Windows 7

Of course she never backed anything up, and when I tried a system restore it stopped half way thru the 2nd disk

not by any means a tech guy, so help would be appreciated.

Without the ability to look at it myself, and since restore didn't work, I'd suggest taking it to Geek Squad at Best Buy. They can be a bit pricy though, but they're usually pretty good. If you have a smaller computer expert shop in your area they may be a little cheaper.

she bought it at Staples, so might just bring it there. Going to mess around with it this weekend.

Won't even load in safe mode?

Restart it and press the F8 key repeatedly when it turns back on.
See if it loads that way.

Yeah, geek squad is a good suggestion.

If you had your files backed up, I'd just "flatten it" and reload the OS.

Local computer shop...best way to fix over a national geek squad type thing.

Wonder if your comp came w/ a system restore disk. If you pop that it it'll reset everything to factory settings.

You could always buy a new one. :ww:

well was able to back up her files and restore it back to out of box condition, but when I tried to reload all her crap back on, some files wouldnt load in and the whole process just died. Thinking those were the corrupted files anyway

Was able to save the pictures from our London trip Thanksgiving Christmas and our Florida. Her job was to put them all in photo books since we have 6 groupons for 50% off so I would have been pissed if we lost those. Got some great pictures of Torry ,Ike, Sammy B Sjax and others from the fan rally

Some stuff was lost but it seems to be working just fine. She has been on Facebook all day.

Showed her how to back up her files once a month onto a new flash drive and told her to lay off the porn sites. We'll see what happens now

Ha!

That's awesome. :sly:

I bought an external hard-drive (800GB) for all my pictures, music files, videos, and other shit I don't want bogging down my comp. They're pretty cheap too. You know, if you don't want to have a half-dozen flash drives laying around all over the place.

A lot of wireless routers have the ability to plug a hard drive right in; sort of like a file server.

I'm not speaking directly to you Paul, just making a comment in general for consideration to any readers when you upgrade your router. It's a nice way to do it.
