Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher – Post-Practice – August 2, 2013

(On what Coach Fisher is hoping to accomplish at Rams Fan Fest on Saturday)
“This actually, for us, from a football standpoint kind of culminates one phase of camp because there’ll be a day off on Sunday and then three days later we’re going to travel. Obviously, it’ll be a full padded practice and we’re going to get a lot done. We’re going to have a good special teams session to start with and then we’ll compete in the one-on-one drills and the passing drills, and then we’ll have some team period with some two-minute. Then, we’ll finish with probably a live scrimmage with some of the younger guys.”

(On if he likes the concept at being at the Edward Jones Dome for the scrimmage)
“Yeah, I think it’s a great opportunity. It’s a great opportunity for the fans who have not been able to come out to see practice. They can come down and spread out and enjoy a couple hours of some serious football.”

(On if practicing in the Edward Jones Dome is a good experience for the new players)
“It was a good experience for everybody that was new last year, yeah. The new players, the younger players get an opportunity to go and see the house we’re going to defend.”

(On moving practice indoors to avoid the thunder and lightning)
“We were in constant contact with the weather people. When the lightning gets within close to 20 miles away, we’re going to come inside.”

(On it taking a lot to move practice indoors)
“Yes it does, but it doesn’t take a lot of lightning to get me indoors.”

(On how RBs Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead are progressing so far)
“They’ve done fine. They’ve both had good camps, a good offseason, healthy and running hard, and not making mistakes in protection, which is important to us and our quarterback.”

(On if they have installed a large part of the offense over the last few days)
“Yeah, we’ve put a lot in. We were hoping to get most of everything in through the weekend. Next week we have to introduce the National Anthem to them and pre-game warm-ups and all those things and then prepare for game situations.”

(On going over pre-game routines in practice)
“We’ll practice it, yes.”

(On if there will be any new rules that the players will have to go out of their way to get used to)
“No. Most of everything was player safety related. The big rule change would be a replay change. But they’re player safety related, and we’ve just got to avoid the helmet-to-helmet contact rule when proceeding with the crown of the helmet. We saw a video last night, the players did, with the officiating department that was here. It was an excellent video. It was very, very clear as to what you can do and what you can’t do.”

(On if his former players, specifically receivers, disliked wearing knee and thigh pads)
“Yeah. I think it was league wide. It was across the board, but that’s not going to be the case now. We’ve had them on once and it was no big deal with anybody. So, we’ll have them on tomorrow and then we’ll have them on the third time for the real deal – for the preseason game.”

(On how LB Will Witherspoon is doing so far in training camp)
“Will’s a vet. He understands what to do and how to do it. His familiarity to the system, terminology – he stepped in exactly like he’s been here for a couple seasons.”
