This is an odd move.

Scott was expected to be released during roster cut down. Clemens was not.

I guess they wanted 3 QBs, but didnt want to guarantee Clemens salary. 100% financial move.

Maybe it's related to the offensive line....

I'd say it's pretty obvious this was all about MONEY! If nobody thought they'd keep Scott and everybody thought they'd keep Clemens and then they do that as soon as week 1 is over (and veteran salaries are no longer guaranteed) they made that happen. Now Davis can resume being the #3 QB and if he develops to the point where he could be a legit #2, then they can go ahead and get rid of Clemens for good and not have to pay the rest of his salary.

The cutting and resigning of Clemens was a purely pragmatic move. If they at first did it because they needed the roster spot (DT), they also knew they had a candidate to cut (Scott) once the depth at DT stabilized. And you cut Clemens because Davis would have been picked up before you could get him to the PS. Where was Clemens? Waiting for us to call.

The contract situation was merely a bonus.

This exactly. Nice call.

Scott never had a chance to suit up week one tho. Makes me think the move was financial.

What I find most curious is why they choose to keep Scott on the roster for 1 week rather than a guy like Hoho or Ojinaka.

Clemens was cut after Brockers ankle, but before Conrath went down. The thinking on Scott might have been that he could be ready for week 1. Hoho went when they picked up Heard. Ojinaka was cut in favor of Smith/N'sece (sp?).

I'm sure they were aware of the financials for Clemens, but I don't think that was their primary concern.
