OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne, the team's first-round draft pick, cut short Friday's practice to undergo an MRI on his knee. Coach Jason Garrett called the move "precautionary" after Claiborne alerted coaches that the knee began bothering him during drills.

Garrett said Claiborne initially tweaked the knee during Wednesday's workout, took treatment during Thursday's off day and thought he could take part in Friday's workout. During the workout, however, Garrett said the knee "flared up on him a little bit... and we took him out of it."

Asked about the severity of the injury, Garrett said: "We don't think it's serious. It's precautionary."

Garrett said he expects to know more about Claiborne's situation today.

Claiborne, a standout last season at LSU, was taken with the sixth overall pick and is counted on to be a starter at the corner spot opposite free-agent signee Brandon Carr.

In other injury updates, linebacker Anthony Spencer (hamstring) missed practice and Garrett said he is expected to sit out today, too. Defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford (calf) left practice early. Safety Gerald Sensabaugh (knee) has been cleared to return to practice.
