The Rams got defensive end Chris Long on the practice field Wednesday after he was listed as a non-participant on both Monday and Tuesday because of the ankle injury that forced him to spend much of the season on injured reserve.

That led the team to list Long as questionable for Thursday night’s game against the Cardinals. Coach Jeff Fisher said the team would wait to make a final call on Long’s status before the game, although it sounds like things are trending in the right direction for one of the team’s top defensive players.

“He was OK,” Fisher said, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “We’ll see how he is in the warmups tomorrow, but we’re very optimistic about it.”

Long is the only injury concern on the 53-man roster heading into the game. The other seven players on the injury report, including linebacker James Laurinaitisand wide receiver Kenny Britt, are listed as probable.

He's playing...he's going to be sore after games having sat out with injury all year.

The extra days rest on a short week make perfect sense.

Since Long's been back the team is on the rise, it's no coincidence. Silly me for thinking this team did not need El Capitán!

I'm guessing he plays as he is probably really tired of NOT playing. I just hope that if the soreness is a warning sign, he pays heed and knows when to shut it down.

I'm sure it's a little sore on a short week and a little uncomfortable, but that won't keep Chris Long out of a game. Pain tolerance isn't an issue for him. Unless there's a very high chance he'll mess up his ankle really bad again, he's going to play.

Wise to sit him and rest him coming back to active status and it also gives the Cards something else to have to game plan for on a short week.
