No no no stay with the old story. The Rams are complete idiots and traded 14 years of draft picks for Jared Goff and we got dupped.

P.s. Goff is a bust.

Important yes, 1/3 of the game no. There are far fewer special teams plays than offense or defense, so the yardage totals are a lot less. For example, the Rams this year have 4,779 yards total offense (rushing and passing), but only 1,170 in kickoff and punt return yards. I do think that a great kicker, punter or returner can be a huge difference-maker, but the coverage guys are way less important than the regulars on offense and defense.
I know we're talking mostly about Cooper in this thread.

But it kinda morphed into Special Teams in general.

In that light, we all know what important contributions both Hekker and Zuerline make every game.

It could easily be argued that they win us in the neighborhood of 2 games a year, minimum.

ST's 1/3? Absolutely, IMO.

Does this signify the first trade up in NFL history for a franchise QB to pan out for the team who got the QB?
Eli Manning? John Elway?

These articles are funny.
The RGIII trade started out as a slam dunk win for Washington.
Then it leaned heavily in the Rams favor.
Now I think its basically a draw....

I've always thought it absurd when coaches say special teams is a third of the game, that it's just as important as offense and defense. It's similar to when people (Rex Ryan) say the QB is no more important than any other position on the field
Agreed

Unless every unit significantly outplays the opponent in every area...or component, then totally agree....Not on the field as much...field position helps....but good teams will drive the ball from anywhere...good teams will stop an offense no matter where they start a drive. You could have a great special teams unit...that significantly outplays the opposition....and has NO effect on a game.

Anybody noticed how much Marriota has looked like crap? Winston too for that matter....as for the trade...still too soon....by next year, we should know more....Conklin and that RB.....look pretty good....same as Goff...

Cooper's impact....huge as it looks to us fans...in reality is minuscule....I think our ST's as a whole has helped our offense....may have covered up some blemishes too:(

Glad you mentioned Mariota... Had a Titans fan next to me at the bar the other day and his take on his QB surprised me. Hadn't really watched any of their games this year but he was unhappy with him overall and kept talking about Goff and how we got lucky lol.

Winston I think has greatness in him, but I'm not sure he's a guy who will do the work. I think he's a Favre type, leadership/instincts being his strengths and he might succeed on that alone but yeah long way to go still with all these guys.

Pretty damn happy with Jared though. We've got a big offseason ahead but we're still in a great spot man.

Trust me....I like to go, whoa is us in here...but as I look out at the landscape...we might have missed on a A+....at least we got the B....Marriota looks terrible...think he can't run...or is told not too....I saw a lil of Jameis last Sunday (redzone is awesome!).....he still has "it"....think his coach gets fired....they should be better. Esp. on offense.

Not me. A good QB is worth all of the players Tennessee got from the Rams and more. Goff is not a finished product. He is young and new to the pro system. I think he will only get better.
