The Cardinals are in the market for a veteran running back, but not that one.

They are, however, interested in a guy who was once the most explosive player at his position.

According to Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN, the Cards have offered former Titans running back Chris Johnson a one-year deal, and are awaiting word on whether he’ll accept.

It’s no guarantee he’ll sign (as last week’s Pierre Thomas snafu showed), but the fact the Cardinals are interested says something about their spot.

Johnson, who only managed 663 yards with the Jets last year (on a respectable 4.3 yards per attempt), hasn’t looked like CJ2K for quite some time. In fact, that 2,006-yard season in 2009 is an aberration when you look at his career stats.

But the Cardinals are so banged up at the moment, it can’t hurt to look, to see if the 29-year-old Johnson has anything left.

I hope he doesn't have anything remaining in the tank if they sign him. I know he is far removed from the 2006 yard season but, he was so fast he just blow by people. IIRC he had a great pass catching day against the Rams.

If he still has the speed that makes him dangerous but somebody needs to remind him that he has to play our Rams and Sea twice a year. Not exactly the ideal place for him but since nobody else seems to be knocking on door for his services he'll probably sign in Az.

He couldn't beat out journeyman Ivory for the Yets #1 back last year. He played all 16 games and that was his total? meh.

Very close stats to Tre Mason

Same 4.3 YPC as Mason

Mason had 776 Yards t0 Johnson's 663 with only 155 carries he could get his legs back.
Just don't want him playing the Rams and his old coach Jeff Fisher. He could be very motivated anda nice change of pace back with big play ability.
