The Star Tribune’s Matt Vensel and CineSport’s Noah Coslov preview the Vikings opener vs. the Rams by talking about pass protection, Adrian Peterson and how to get after Rams QB Shaun Hill.

It would really be nice if the dome got as loud as it was during the playoffs years ago. From what I read, their LG & LT are struggling a bit already. Crowd noise won't help.

Clearly no, so the question will be how the Rams defense will counter all the ways the Vikings try to neutralize the Rams' superior pass rush advantage. Vikings will try to run AP directly at them, will the Rams stuff the run? The Vikes will try to screen, are the Rams LBs in game shape now after an awful preseason showing? Then of course the quick passes, e.g. slant to Patterson -- will we see the same stupid 10-yard cushions from our CBs that allowed the 2nd worst completion percentage in the NFL last year? Finally they may try deception, reverse or end around with Patterson who is a dangerous runner. Basically we know the Rams can rush the passer, the questions are will the Rams defense play smart, tackle well and not concede big plays? The defense needs to control all the aspects of this game and completely snuff out the Vikings offense from the start.

They've actually got a good line. The biggest issue is the guy under center. Matt Cassel wouldn't know how to avoid pressure if you gave him Gollum's precious ring. Hit him once and he'll be running scared the rest of the game.

I am not worried about Matt Cassell's arm. I am TERRIFIED of Adrian Peterson's legs

The rookie Khalil starting at Lt? Read an article that he's been struggling. If that's the case...Quinn should have a field day, or free up someone with more one on one situations. Vikings would be dumb not to send help that way.

This will be Kalil's 3rd year. He had a down year last year, but I think he was a Pro-Bowl rookie.

Rams have advantage vs. their interior.

They have one of the best OT duos in the league tho.

But Robert Quinn and Chris Long can and will have the upper hand.

They can handle the Ram pass rush by running the ball. The Ram front 7 tends to get gashed early for big runs. Not sure if that is being too high and trying to do more than their own job, or not playing up to the opening motor of the opponent, but it happens all the time. Maybe this unit now has matured enough to avoid this trap. This Sunday would be a bad time for a reoccurrence. I'll take a couple of six-and-outs to start the game. No time to be greedy. Make the weak QB try to beat you; not the hall of famer.

The Vikings aren't good enough to win this game, they can't play defense WAF.

Even the best tackles in the league require help to keep Quinn from the QB on long developing pass plays. The only way to keep him off the QB is to do screens and slants when you aren't doubling him. We need the rest of the d-line to pick up the slack.

Fisher has a good chance to go into this game without his top DE reserve out...William Hayes plus Fisher could be without the other experience DE Eugene Sims too. That's a major chuck missing from the normal DL rotation. So looks like 5th DE Ethan Westbrooks is the next up. We may even see some Aaron Donald some @ DE.

Gregg Williams DC did throw out some 34 defenses in that last pre season game not sure if that will continue but loosing a chunk of your DL rotation will cause some issues.
