With reports of him nearing a mega deal in excess of $20MM per year...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...on-aaron-rodgers-20-million-average/28309465/

A career record of 30-31.

Never exceeded 88.8 passer rating in a season. Okay numbers overall, but nothing flashy.

>$20MM a year? That's top 5 QB territory.

This guy is OVERRATED!

He's just another RB pretending to be a QB. His high TD to INT ratio is only because he will tuck and run instead of throwing if the guy isn't clearly open.

You got have at least an average QB to stay relevant in league. Exhibit A: Rams in 2013 and 2014 Vs Arizona Cardinals (the lesser talented team with better QB playing on a Sunday) in 2013 and 2014

The $ numbers doesn't matter as long as the QB is average who gives his team a chance to win every Sunday. So Cam deserves every penny of it and so does Russel Wilson

Similar to Sam Bradford, he has nothing. No offensive line. No weapons. Rib injuries plague him. And he still produces.

Is he a top 5 QB? Probably not. But he's a damn good one in my opinion.

Hilarious first paragraph.

I do agree 100% with the second paragraph.

He's accounted for 115 td in 4 seasons, 29 per. The team has been crappy and he still has produced.
Personally I feel that given the right coaching/scheme he could be a top 5 QB.

Totally agree. Cam hasn't been given much to work with. His line is horrible. The guy has done the best he can with limited stuff around him.

And for the last time stop putting the team record as a QB stat. He has no control over the defense or special teams. I just can't stand that has become a thing.

With all those douches around him the last couple seasons? He should get paid. Oh wait - he acts like a douche too. Guess I don't care.

Probably the most naturally talented QB in the league and he seems to want it and willing to put the work in. He needs help, though.

For a year or two. QBs are getting big bucks even not so good ones. There are 9 QBs averaging $19M or more a year.

I'm not sure. Newton is still young and can run. He also is hard to bring down. Lost Steve Smith last year. I don't think they have a choice but to pay him. It will be interesting to see what he does.

He's a decent QB. Not worth that type of cash but he'll get it because they have no other choice. He turns the ball over way too often, 65 times in his four years. Not counting the fumbles that his team recovered. Carolina can do worse. They really should have put more emphasis on protecting him. 152 sacks so far. Damn. And the line isnt any better this year.

I hate how every QB that doesn't suck suddenly deserves Aaron Rodgers money.

These contracts are cap cripplers. And just because the best QBs in the league make it, doesn't mean the rest should. 20 million for Cam Freakin Newton is ridiculous.

This is a big reason the Rams moved on from Sam, and why, if they think Mannion can be a decent starter, I predict they won't resign Foles....he will get too much from some desperate team.

If you ask me; paying one player that kind of money only hurts the team and limits the teams ability to give a QB the tools he needs to succeed. If I were Cam I would tell the team to keep some of that pay day for a shot at a decent O-Line and receiving corps. That is something Bradford should've done.
As a QB I would want as much help as I could get. Even if It results in me getting paid less. Who Knows? If Sam had a better O-Line and more offensive weapons his first three seasons he may still be the starting QB for the Rams today.
Remember..... Magic Johnson took less money than offered in his second contract with the Lakers and the Lakers became a dynasty.

I hope this trend on ridiculous QB contract bubbles burn faster than the 2008 financial crisis.

I think it will as teams will exploit that by de-emphasizing the position in favor of creating a more balanced team.

Well, something's going to have to give because the college game isn't making NFL type QBs anymore at the rate needed to replenish the pro ranks. Not even to really replenish the backup ranks at the quality level needed. That's why guys like Shaun Hill are still making way good money at his age and Ryan Fitzpatrick are starting.

If teams are faced with Door A) pay a mediocre QB like a HoF QB, Door B) have a revolving door at QB, develop the D and hope you can find at best a caretaker QB to get you to 10 wins or look for something ELSE behind Door C)???

Faced with that, if enough teams fail with options A and B, they will look at C even if they have no idea what's behind that door because if A and B are known paths to failure, then the unknown can't be any worse.
