As has been pointed out I think that part of the issue last year was not really learning the McVay passing schemes due to lack of training camp. Part may have been his injury and other factors. But I also think Tavon is a serious guy who will work hard to show improvement in this area. It's also on the coaches to both come up with a good plan for him and to really work with him on whatever routes or plays they want him on.

Tavon isn't just a decoy. He can score tds and win games for us if we can find the right plays for him. He has done it in the past. It was a big disappointment that it didn't happen last year, but someone on the staff must still think it's possible or he wouldn't be around, restructure or not. Let's give him a chance to redeem himself.

I'm ok with this, I feel another year in this system ought to be of great benefit to TA and the Staff, it's not like he's a quick learner :dizzy:

Bitch gets on your nerves but you keep her around because now and then she does something right.

You say that like it's a bad thing...

great work tavon. he's betting on himself here to earn the rest of his contract. i hope he plays well enough to earn it.

.

TA did the Rams a favor by accepting the "restructure". He could have let the Rams cut him then been free to sign with anyone that offered him a deal after pocketing the $5mil. Maybe he knows nobody was willing to pay him $3mil so he stayed so he could at least have a chance to earn $3mil.

The only things that matter now are that TA stays healthy, gets serious about route running and is on the jugs machine daily. So he can be utilized by McVay as more than a decoy.

Hoping McVay will at least give him some reps at the WR position, preferably easing him with our 2nd stringers first and if it pans out, have him work with the starters in some situations

Glad to see Tavon back at a mutually beneficial deal. He was a huge part of our success last year regardless of people want to give that credit or not last year.

So crazy. Every damn person coming out the woodwork to bash Tavon, (restructures deal), Never seen so many, “Tavon helped this offense last year” posts.

I can see four ways Tavon could help this team and add value.

1 Jet sweeps and fakes. Same as last year.

2 Screens

3 Deep routes

4 Short crossing routes

Just don’t use him the following ways:

Run up the middle

Run routes in the middle of the field

Run deep outs or ins

Run curls

Rule of thumb:

Get him the ball at or behind the line of scrimmage or over the top of everyone.

The 3 mil incentive deal shows how tavon feels about staying. I like it. My history with him has been up and down. The year he was drafted I was on another board that shall remain soulless, or nameless, and I was having quite a morning emailing the Saudi Prince's CEO some info he requested for my fantasy football online series they wanted to produce.

I better break this up. Heard its good for readers. So I'm online doing mad research.....did I mention I was flying on MDMA? And pick number 7 just happened and the announcers mention tavon is still on the board. Suddenly I felt a frosty vibe in the force and switched windows to post something about our first pick.

The post said the only thing worse than drafting tavon, would be moving up to get him. Time slowed and I'm pretty sure I saw some lightning hit a pedestrian outside my window. And as this elderly woman fell to the sidewalk, I heard that the rams had just moved up to grab tavon. The dark prophecy of 90 seconds had been fulfilled. Needless to say, my day was ruined.

Of course I was rooting for TA to wreck defenses and in his 2nd year I was so happy with all his success that I asked forgiveness from the football gods for doubting him and the fisher king.

Then came the extension and I was like eehhhhhh.....I dont know about this. Oh, what am I saying. I was screaming at the tv that fisher was out of his damn mind!

And out he was as the next years saw tavon reduced to the jet sweep guy turned fake sweep guy who had more fumbles than touchdowns. If I had to bet on one player not being here this year it woulda been him.

Now I'm glad he's staying and I'm impressed by his decision to restructure his contract when he could have made a guaranteed payday. I really hope mcvay figures something out for him in this offense. I mean can't he just motion into a go route and have Goff heave it?

Oh yeah, this may take another turn as I feel he is trade bait. In that case I will feel bad for tavon but depending on who we get, I may feel good about it.

I like Tavon and his attitude but Option 1 is to keep Tavon as tradebait. I believe McSnead would take a 6th round trade in a heartbeat. It would cost us $0.00 and net another pick.

That's not the kind of team i want the rams to be. The guy did them a solid. If they trade him they have stooped to ravens and, god forbid, the cheats level.

pretty sure the rest of the contract stays as is. works for both sides. tavon can't find a place in the offense the rams can cut him next season with no ramifications. tavon lights it up, or even just contributes more, he earns the right to get the rest of his money @ $9m per year. win win for both sides.

.

It is a 1 yr deal now. After 2018 TA will be a FA, unless he makes great strides to fit in to the O.

A lot will depend on the quantity and quality of Tavon's training. Our Little Big Man was a RB in high school, and, although his former collegiate & roommate, Stedman Bailey, worked with him on receiver training, Tavon still plays mostly as a RB who just switched to WR----that is, not very instinctively at all! Like Isaac Bruce, Barry Sanders, & Gale Sayers, he is one of those rare individuals who can make 90-degree cuts at full speed. With his elite velocity & quickness, that translates into great separation skills with proper technique. Still, I get the impression that he still thinking his way through his routes rather just executing with full confidence, maybe rounding off his cuts too much . . . providing defenders opportunities to recover and close on him.

If he can get his technique down well enough to allow him to execute instinctively (i.e., without thinking his steps through) he can be a terror even with so-so hands because his separation would improve to give him wide open looks. If his hands improve beyond the so-so level, he may look like night & day compared to last season as a receiver. I just hope he works with a dedicated, smart trainer.
