On today’s Upon Further Review, the Post-Dispatch’s Bryan Burwell reports from Rams Park where the rookies were on the field with Oprah Winfrey’s film crew documenting Michael Sam’s journey. Includes practice clips. (3:00)

I simply do not understand this mentality. Every year this is a big story in the NFL. Did New Orleans win the SB after Katrina, even with all the media following them around. I myself have watched to separate documentaries about the rebuild and what the Saints meant for that city. Did it hurt the team, I think not.


2012 everyone was talking about Peyton and his return to the NFL. Cameras were shoved in his face after every practice, yet his TEAM made the playoffs

They stopped the Oprah show. If something hurts the team, it's going to be something that's beyond Sam's doing(unless he does something stupid). Don't blame Sam for the media circus. If they had continued the Oprah show, that he could be blamed for.

If you're going to cut a guy, it should be because he's not good enough at football or has done something horribly wrong off the field. Sam has done neither.

Agreed. Wasn't thrilled that he didn't disclose it, but that's a non-factor now. NOW he can succeed or fail on his own merits.

I didn't realize that the Oprah Documentary was stopped in the Video they spoke of the Oprah crew filming. I assure you when the camera is on people act different whether it is a reluctance by a coach to discipline a player or other. . I have no ill feelings toward Sam or his attempt to make the Rams without a distraction. A city rallying after a natural disaster is Very different than a player bringing a distraction or camera after practice. there were many posters that didn't want the possible distraction of players like Britt and others and I am only concerned about the football end of this.
