I watched the Baylor vs TCU game yesterday and came away impressed with Petty. His numbers ended up 28/55 510 yards 6 tds and 2 ints against a tough and aggressive TCU defense. His team was down 21 in the fourth quarter and he lead them to a comeback victory. He threw what I thought was a nuce deep ball and seems to be a great leader. He has good size and is pretty tough. I normally am not a big fan of spread qbs but its hard to avoid them anymore. If the Rams are going to draft a qb I wouldnt mind it being Petty.

Interesting choice.

Any know why his completion % is so poor though? He puts up tons of TDs, doesn't get picked a lot, but completes under 60% of his passes a lot.

Is that just Baylor's system and most of those are deep balls or what?

He threw a lot of deep balls yesterday, the announcers kept saying that against that defense the completion percentage would be low but you could hit big plays. Petty did hit some big plays, his wrs averaged 19.8, 18, 20.7, and 34 yards per reception.

I like the guy but I am wary of the back injury that kept him out for a while. If it checks out, he would be worth a look in the 3rd round

Scoring 58 points and losing props to Petty and Art Briles has done an outstanding job at Baylor!

Unless Davis takes us into the playoffs, I think we pretty much have to.
If Davis plays like a starting level QB for the entire season, he doesn't have to take us to the playoffs to earn another shot next year, imo.

Basically, this is going to be the theme on Davis... he's playing out of his head right now, even if it's not translating to wins. Hard to believe this is the same guy who couldn't play well enough to even make the roster last year.

We'll have to see where it all ends up before making any final verdicts.

I'm not in the camp that says RAMS must make the playoffs for Davis to have a shot next year. The kid is playing good right now, 3 games into his NFL career. Show me what he can do on the field, and maybe next year it might translate into winning more games and making the playoffs

I'm a Kansas State Wildcats fan, and he's impressed me, but his back injury earlier this year would concern me, although it doesn't seem to have any ill-effects.

All I know is I can't wait for Kansas State to play them in December; hopefully they are undefeated and we can break their hearts like they broke ours in 2012 :sneaky:

Austin Davis looks like the real deal. Based on what he did against two Superbowl contenders, Eagles and Cowboys, I'm very impressed thus far. Bradford never had 2 games in a row with 3 TD passes and 300 yds. I think we found a sleeper. Just goes to show how bad our coaching staff is for not recognizing it sooner, and taking into account all the mistakes and penalties, etc.. If he keeps it up and shows he can do it again tonight, we will not be taking a QB in the 1st rd next year. And if he keeps it up and we do not make the playoffs, look for the owner to clean house on the coaching staff. On that note...

Pete Carroll's first try at coaching in the NFL was terrible and he was run out of the league. His second try is obviously a success...I for one think this story can be replicated by Saban. Now let's read the bashing lol :)

I'm just not sold on Davis, he was undrafted for a reason, he was cut last year for a reason, and he was 4th string most of training camp for a reason. I hope I'm wrong but I cant help but feel like he will come back to earth. I'm still a Bradford supporter and ultimately thing that he will be the starter next year but if they are going to draft a QB high I want it to be the right guy.

Could have said the same thing about Kurt Warner. Could Austin Davis come back down to earth? Absolutely. I hope he doesn't.

I would still draft an insurance policy. It's hard not to be on the fence with him even though he puts up stats.

Undrafted doesn't mean squat once a guy starts playing. If he produces, he produces. As jrry said above, Warner was undrafted and there's a good shot he's going to get fitted for a golden jacket next year. Tony Romo is one of the hottest QB's in the game right now, also undrafted.

Sometimes scouts just miss guys, and sometimes you don't know what you have until a guy gets playing time. So far Davis looks quite promising, and with every game he looks good, his status as "undrafted" will mean less and less.
