When the Browns rolled out new a new helmet and logo, most saw no real difference. When the Browns roll out new uniforms on Tuesday night, the team claims that the difference will be more obvious.

“The uniforms had to be different,” team president Alec Scheiner said Tuesday, via the team’s official website. “You won’t mistake them for our old uniforms.”

Via the Associated Press, nine players will model the nine combinations or brown, orange, and white jerseys and pants. There also potential will be a fourth color.

Yes, a fourth color. That somehow goes with orange, brown, and white.

The orange jersey reportedly has shown up in stores recently. Soon enough, we’ll find out whether that’s indeed one of the options.

Some Browns fans may be hoping it’s not.

With the Browns unveiling new uniforms Tuesday night, it’s a good time to ask the following:

Who’s next?

Meaning, which team is next to unveil updated uniforms?

In this case, history can be a guide. NFL clubs can only undertake major design changes to their uniforms every five years. So get used to Cleveland’s new jerseys — they aren’t going anywhere for a little while.

However, other clubs have more flexibility to change their look. With this in mind, we’ve researched uniform changes over the years to see when clubs last made amajor branding switch. For our purposes, we’ll define the last major change as 1) a major helmet logo alteration, 2) a major overall logo/mascot change and/or 3) a full uniform redesign. Also, we only considered the club’s primary uniforms; alternate and throwback jerseys were left out of the discussion.

In some cases, the matter of a “major” uniform redesign or change is quite subjective. For instance, the Cowboys have done numerous little things to their jerseys over the years, but their star logo has been constant. The Saints, with their distinctive fleur-de-lis and black-and-gold color scheme, are a similar case.

Also, numerous teams undertook various little changes to their jerseys when Nike took over as the NFL’s uniform supplier in 2012; unless there were major redesigns, a la Miami, the tweaks are not denoted below.

Finally, what are your favorite all-time NFL uniforms? Let us know in the comments.

2015

Cleveland Browns.

2014

Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

2013

Jacksonville Jaguars.

Miami Dolphins.

Minnesota Vikings.

2012

Buffalo Bills.

Seattle Seahawks.

2009

Detroit Lions (logo).

San Francisco 49ers.

2007

San Diego Chargers. The team also made a few minor changes in 2013.

2005

Arizona Cardinals.

New York Giants.

2004

Cincinnati Bengals.

2003

Atlanta Falcons.

2002

Houston Texans.

2000

New England Patriots.

St. Louis Rams.

1999

Baltimore Ravens (helmet).

Tennessee Titans.

1998

New York Jets.

1997

Denver Broncos.

Philadelphia Eagles.

1995

Carolina Panthers. The club made some logo text alterations in 2012. However, the jersey has not really been changed since the franchise began play in 1995.

1973

Chicago Bears (helmet).

1972

Washington Redskins.

1968

Pittsburgh Steelers. As Mike Florio notes, the Steelers tweaked their uniforms ever-so-slightly in 1997, with an altered numerical font the biggest change.

1967

Dallas Cowboys. There have been numerous tweaks to the Dallas uniforms over the years. In 1996, stars were added to sleeves of the blue uniforms, perCowboysZone.com. Also, the club made its blue uniforms darker in 1981. However, as CowboysZone.com notes, there have not been major design changes to the Dallas uniform since 1967. The essence has remained the same.

New Orleans Saints. Per Uni-Watch.com, several tweaks to the uniform were made in ’99, with changing the color of the numbers on the white jerseys from gold to black the most significant development. The Saints also made a slight alteration to the fleur-de-lis on their helmets in 2000.

However, these aren’t major changes by any stretch, and one could also argue the biggest alteration in recent memory was the elimination of striped jersey sleeves in 1986.

1964

Oakland Raiders. They have made minor alterations over the years, but nothing big, as SportsLogos.net notes.

1963

Kansas City Chiefs. Their color scheme has been largely been unchanged, as has the helmet. The arrow head on the helmet got a little smaller in 1974, per SportsLogos.net.

1961

Green Bay Packers. This was when the “G” added to helmet; minor tweaks have been made since, perhaps most notably during Forest Gregg’s tenure in the 1980s.

1957

Indianapolis Colts. According to ESPN, the Colts’ helmets with horseshoes on both sides were worn in this season. The Colts’ white/blue color scheme has largely the same throughout this time, with a few minor alterations.

They left that off the list, didn't they?

Late 90's if I recall.

EDIT: 1997

I don't like any of the all one-color looks.
The brown on orange looks good along with the white on brown. An orange on white look would be pretty cool as well.
I just hate the backdrop on the numbers and the BROWNS where the stripe was.

@DR RAM you come up with the best/worst gifs. That's sick!

I actually like the new Browns unis. The feature I hate, we also have on ours: That idiotic pimp NFL necklace thing. That looks so stupid.

At least they don't have the ugly ass collar we use. That collar is uglier than anything the Browns could put out(and that includes on the field).

Browns unveil new uniforms
Posted by Mike Florio on April 14, 2015

The Nikefication of the NFL continues.

Since acquiring the exclusive apparel license in 2012, the company that has made it virtually impossible to know who’s playing in a given college football game by merely looking at the uniforms of the teams involved continues to persuade NFL teams to change the things they wear on game day, if for no reason other than to sell a bunch of jerseys to replace those that already have been purchased.

The Browns are the latest team to introduced new jerseys and pants designed by Nike, and the change is definitely more radical than the so-subtle-it-wouldn’t-have-been-immediately-noticed alteration to the team’s logo and helmet. The design matches the layout of the orange jerseys that recently showed up in multiple Ohio stores, a gaffe that became inevitable when Nike, the NFL, and/or the Browns decided to allow inventory to be placed in the hands of folks who could accidentally or deliberately let the shirt out of the bag.

The same design appears on all three colors of jerseys — orange, brown, and white. (The orange jersey is the alternate third jersey.) Inside the neck of each version appears the inscription “Dawg Pound.” Also, the word “BROWNS” appears along the side of the pants, where a stripe ordinarily would be.

In relation to what they’re replacing, the uniforms aren’t hideous. And like other altered uniforms, the football-watching world will get used to them after seeing the images in photos and highlights.

Contemporaneous with the unveiling of the new uniforms, the Browns also released a lengthy explanation of the process that resulted in the new design. Ultimately, the real reason is much more simple; Nike wants every team to eventually roll out a Nike-designed uniform.

As long as no team has a different uniform every week, most fans will accept that.

I would rather they have a log on the helmet. Maybe it would change their karma. I liked that bulldog helmet that was on one of these threads a while back.

Those uniforms suck though. They have a chance to totally redo them and that is the best they could come up with? Seriously that was the best effort?
