So we've gone in 2 months from the Vikings fans telling us how great Keenum was to them telling us he's just ok and they need to upgrade.
It's our chance to get Keenum again to back up Jared...

And possibly 5 QB drafted 1st round.
Kind of a wicked game of musical chairs, surely with Cleveland ending up without a qb...

I'm pretty sure they are going to get a QB, the question will be if they got a good one.

We will find out soon enough.

When did cousins become a top 5 qb?

He may not be top 5 but he is an excellent QB.

I was really hoping minne would stick with Bridgewater. And no way in hell the Rams go after Teddy B to back up Goff, TBs lack of arm strength would really limit the routes that the Rams could run with TB in the game.

Wow they are going all in on Kirk Cousins

Opinion: Vikings clearing the deck of QBs to go after Cousins
Barry Petchesky

There’s an old, dumb, incorrect football saying that goes, “If you have two quarterbacks, you have none.” Well, the Vikings this season had three quarterbacks. And now, it appears, they actually do have none.

Free agency is two weeks away, and the deadline for placing franchise tags on players is one week away, and the Vikings have begun making decisions. NFL.com reported yesterday that Minnesota will not use the franchise tag on Case Keenum (who stepped in for the injured Sam Bradford, who took the place of the injured Teddy Bridgewater, who even when back to full health did not win the job back from Keenum, who led the team to the NFC title game. It was messy, but it worked somehow.) And now today, this:

View: https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/968460006457860096?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdeadspin.com%2Fthe-vikings-are-clearing-the-deck-of-quarterbacks-to-go-1823352889

This is more complicated than merely not re-signing Bridgewater. Because of his long-term injury, the Vikings could have made a case—it was certainly not cut-and-dried—that his contract should have tolled, which would roll it over a full year and have him essentially play for free in 2018.

Bridgewater would have filed a grievance, and if an arbitrator had ruled in favor of the Vikings, Bridgewater would have remained under team control for one more year, but with obvious bad blood. That wouldn’t have been a good situation for anyone. Instead, the Vikings are making it known that they won’t attempt to toll his contract, and allow him to hit free agency.

So, Keenum is a free agent after the journeyman turned in a magical season that no front office in its right mind would count on him repeating. Bridgewater, five years younger but with uncertain health prospects, is a free agent. They’re not going to re-sign Sam Bradford.

The Vikings could bring back Keenum, at a cheaper rate than the franchise tag (probably around $23.5 million), or Bridgewater, but neither is Plan A for a starter.

That’d be Kirk Cousins, who’s going to be the focus of a bidding war, with the Jets, Broncos, Browns, and Cardinals definitely in the mix, likely along with others. But the Vikings have more than enough cap space to make Cousins the highest paid player of all time, which he likely will be, and they have an excellent defense and some great receivers, which might make them the most attractive landing spot. It’s an open secret that the Vikings are going to make “a strong push” for Cousins, and there’s reportedly mutual interest.

If Cousins goes elsewhere, the Vikings could make a run at Drew Brees, even though he’s expected to end up back with New Orleans. And after that, the pickings get slim. Nick Foles in a trade? Josh McCown?

If it comes down to it, a reunion with Keenum or Bridgewater might be the stopgap solution as the Vikings grab a quarterback in a draft that’s pretty deep with them. But right now it looks like Cousins or bust. And if the defense plays like it did last year, that could end up the difference between a Super Bowl and a wasted season.

Signing Teddy? No thanks. Seems like a surefire Cleveland jersey wearer.

Wow they are going all in on Kirk Cousins, thought the Jets had a chance, but it's obvious the Vikings are a better opportunity for Cousins. Those Vikings are being very aggressive.

Cousins is open about wanting to play for Minnesota. They want him. I would be more shocked if they didn't end up together.

I saw some projections of Lamar Jackson to the Vikes with Bradford back on a short deal. They definitely have a lot of options to consider.

Minnesota is ready now. It's not likely that they let a rookie QB hold them back, or rely on an I jury risk again. They need as sure a thing as they can get.

What else did case have to do to prove himself to these guys ? Guy made great plays and almost brought you to the Superbowl.

Very disrespectful move , hope case moves on and doesn't sign with them.

When did cousins become a top 5 qb?

How many playoff wins does he have?

I might be the only one but i would never pay him that kind of money

I agree. Case played great for them. They may regret not signing him. It's an odd situation. But Cousins has been the better QB for a longer time. It is hard to trust Case Keenum. Now if he played like he did this year, for two or three years, then people will believe in him. But he has not been good up until 2017.

I am not a big believer in Cousins either. I hear complaints from Skins fans saying he chokes in the clutch, but Dephilippo has to be thinking that Cousins > Keenum = Superbowl. I would.

The best outcome would be for Keenum to go to another NFC contender, and be the guy that knocks the Vikings out of the playoffs. That would be humorous.

No thanks to Teddy Bridgewater. He has a weak arm and hasn't played for two years. I do think it is time for the Rams to find a better backup, but Teddy ain't it.

Cousins (or Brees if he'd consider other teams) would be as close as you could get to a sure thing, but the Vikes don't have the cap space that some of the other QB needy teams have. If nobody gives them a contender's discount, they could find themselves unable to match offers for Cousins and unwilling to pay Case Keenum the amount he's getting.

Then it's plan B, or C... Looking at how quickly Wentz, Goff, and Watson were able to turn into competent QBs, the Vikes may decide going the cheap vet + rookie route makes sense for 2018 and gets them in much better shape cap-wise going forward.

I hope they are in cap hell and their coach has to eat shit for his comments on Keenum as well as being a bitch on saying the Rams are a dirty team. Fuck him and the Viqueens.

A couple of things. The Vikings aren't going to push for his contract to toll. That is purely up to the NFL, not the Vikings. And really, if Teddy is back up to speed at least he has the chance to make good somewhere else. He has been hitting the weight room pretty hard the past year and has put on 20 pounds. I would have loved to see him play in a game or two during the season to see what he has. There are some good FA QB's on the market, and I can easily see all three leave MN and become starters on another team. The next 3 weeks will be telling.

I think Bridgewater will surprise, for the Jets.
but.....it's the "not having a good QB since Namath", Jets! Going there is just a step above the Browns!
