Haha. I don't blame the family.
It's good you were able to show enough restraint with that prick.
A Bahamian jail, sounds less than an ideal way to spend your time.

Indeed... one visit is enough to know for certain that you never want to return. There is an everlasting impression. :ROFLMAO:

I grew up in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Love the central coast.
Moved to San Diego to go to school, play music and run a business. Then moved to Nevada.
Two outta three ain't bad.
Would love to get back to the west coast.

Fearsome - Vegas or Reno area?

I spent 6 years in SLO town; school and then hung around a few years. Lived in places ranging from a ranch on O'Connor Way, right before back gate to Cuesta, to living above the Cigar Factory on Higuera. Loved it -wish I'd never have left. I was there when the bubble gum wall had about 10 wads on it - no shit.

As far as the thread, grew up in Pasadena, but have no desire to go back to California.
I've been here since '88, and am looking to leave in a couple years. I cannot stand humidity, which unfortunately precludes the South, which is too bad because I like the lifestyle. Probably end up in Montana/Idaho, or maybe the Northwest.

I am in Reno.
It is funny, growing up in a little town like San Luis you can't wait to leave as a kid. Now that I am an older guy I would love to get back there. My parents house is in the Laguna Lake area. I always loved that O'Connor Way area. My father spent years playing/teaching in the Jazz band at Cuesta and even now in his mid 80s he still plays once or twice a week, at Madonna Inn and other places. The weather is perfect and the area can't be beat if you are into the water/ocean or running, biking ect. There are not a lot of work opportunities however.
Reno is ok. I came here in about 94 from San Diego. I was running a business and doing well in San Diego and had hair down to the mid ribcage. Reno was pretty much a cowtown then and I could not get a job in large part because of my hair. I went from running a business to working at a gas station. Things worked out but it took time and struggle.
To say I hated Nevada and what I perceived as the "hicks" was an understatement. The place more makes me sort of chuckle and shake my head now although it has grown up quite a bit.
I dont hate it anymore and there are some things I enjoy quite a bit, but, still would love to get back to the coast. Although, there is plenty of b.s. to deal with there as well I suppose.

If there is a place with a lake and streams full of fish, with temps that never drop below 60 and never rise above 80, that rains enough but never on weekends, and doesn't have high cost of living, isn't over crowded with people, I would take it.

But since there's no such place, California's Central coast is where I would like to live. Good climate. Not too many people.

Here in Merced Ca. the weather's nice now, sunny and mid 70's. But the 100 degree days are not far off. Our summers last around 6 months. We're not a big town compared to many cities in Ca, but 85,000 is starting to get too big for me.
I grew up on the central coast and it is tough to beat weather wise.
Cost of living and politics that are completely insane would be trying.
There are some more affordable areas that are just off the coast. I have a friend who has a very nice, decent sized home right off a creek in Templeton Ca., so, a few miles from the coast. Much more affordable, but, it can get very hot there is the summer.
Last time I was there last summer it was 102 or so at his house and a 30 minute drive later in Morro Bay it was 68. It is amazing how this little low mountains seal in that cool coastal air.

I like where I am right now.
Asheville North Carolina.

I'm over the big metropolises. I'd much rather hang out on my porch with a mountain as my view, or take my dogs down to the river and let them swim, or hang out downtown in one of the top foodie and independent brewery spots around. Plus there's lots of hippies and zero judgement, so I'm not bothered with keeping up with the Joneses anymore. It's just chill.

My family and I have been looking at property in that area for the last year or so. Outside of Raleigh now - not really a finalist for this thread.

More to enjoy. My family has a cabin on Flathead Lake and have spent over 48 summers there. Some of the most beautiful country you will ever see in Glacier National Park and so much to do within an hour of Kalispell.

My grandparents live there. I didn't really like it. City felt too spread out and rustic. But I can understand why other people would feel differently. Beautiful city, though, and a lot of good places to eat.

I'm terrified of snakes, and need to live near an ocean. Love New England coastal towns and the more people think that the "Jersey Shore" represented NJ the better. Keep the eff out. Love the Jersey shore

Love Boston and the whole New England area. Its got everything, from history, farms, big city, beaches to no end, Cape Cod and the Islands and mountains. All within a 45 drive of Boston. The only downside is the price of houses. Nearly impossible to find a home in the Boston Metro area for less than 500K. 500K gets you a starter home. The flip side of that is it nearly impossible to be unemployed in this area. There are jobs everywhere in this area.

When I retire, I hope to have a secondary home in say Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Idaho or someplace like that. There is some beautiful county out that way.

Would that photo be on the north side of Yellowstone NP west of Red lodge?
These mountains are the Missions which are around St. Ignatius, MT. North of the Missions is Flathead Lake, which is the largest fresh water lake West of the Mississippi. Further North is Glacier National Park. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this area is magnificent and there is so much to do for any outdoor enthusiast. With that said...
