The first two rookie contracts for the Rams are now known, and they are virtually identical to the contracts received by rookies in the 2011 draft.

In the last four days, the Rams have signed wide receiver Chris Givens (fourth round), guard Rokevious Watkins (fifth), linebacker Aaron Brown (seventh) and running back Daryl Richardson (seventh).

All players signed four-year contracts with Givens receiving $2,597,028 including a signing bonus of $490,028, while the total value of Watkins’ deal is $2,291,300 including a signing bonus of $191,300. The base salaries for the four years are the minimums of $390,000 this year; $480,000 in 2013; $570,000 in 2014 and $660,000 in 2015.

Givens counts $514,257 against the salary cap and Watkins counts $437,825.

Givens was the first pick of the fourth round, and last year’s first pick in the fourth round was Carolina Panthers cornerback Drew Pittman. Washington safety DeJon Gomes was the 15th choice in the fifth round last year, where Watkins was selected this year.

Most notable is that Givens’ and Watkins’ signing bonuses are the exact amount of those players selected in their corresponding draft slot last year.

The total value for each player’s deal this year is $60,000 more than 2011, and that reflects a yearly increase of $15,000 in minimum salaries.

By virtue of how the contracts are slotted, as the second pick of the seventh round, Brown likely received a signing of bonus $68,900, equal to what Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Pep Levingston got in 2011, while Richardson, the 45th selection in the seventh round, probably got the same bonus as Cincinnati Bengals running back Jay Finley last year: $45,895.
