Anyone else frustrated with the lack of aggression?

I'm not opposed to spending in FA, presuming that the $ are spent wisely. However, look at the list of some the Rams "bigger" name FAs who they have signed recently:

Wells
Long
Dahl
Finnegan
Brown
Robbins
Langford
Mikell

Out of the group, I'd only say Langford, Dahl, and Mikell really lived up to their contracts. There's no need to spend $ just to spend $. I'd rather invest a fair chunk of change in a good starter on the line, in the secondary, or a rotational DT than spend a bunch of $ on position players who have a chance at flopping and putting the Rams back in cap hell.

As of right now we have about 10.5 mill after the draft class under the cap. Not much to go shopping around and be aggressive.

I'm no expert here, but in the next coming years aren't we going to have sign many that we've drafted? For instance I know Brockers is one, and I'm thinking Jenkins would be another. Now granted their are probably others coming off contracts that we won't resign, but just saying we might need to keep cap space down. I know this is Sam's last year at a high figure, but what if we need to resign him next year too? Just thinking out loud.

Cause I see no risk since we arguably grabbed the best offensive lineman in the draft, and I think we have our LT cornerstone for the next 10 years

It is frustrating. FA might be a waste of money, but it's also the only place to get proven NFL players to upgrade your roster.

The same people in this thread that are preaching patience and saying we should stay away from big name free agents are probably the same people that bitched about GRob and Joyner not producing as rookies.

You want to rely on our current players getting better for our only upgrades? Be my guest....I don't. We need more. And you simply cannot count on a rookie to produce their rookie year.

Once you factor in rookie signings and vet FAs to fill your roster bc of injuries, the Rams will have what, $15-$20mil to spend on FAs (assuming Long and Wells are cut)? As long as they spend that money I'll be happy.

Then you should be one happy man. Snead and Fisher have a tendency to use all their resources. That money will be spent, but intelligently.

I don't think the FO is lacking aggression in their moves. This regime is so secretive, sneaky and patient in their moves I think it can lead to misconceptions. Who says the Rams aren't out there wheeling and dealing behind closed doors right now? I bet they are and have been for a while.

With the OC situation I think the way it was handled made Snead/Fisher look bad, because it can easily be viewed as a, we had no other options, BUT this is really the man we wanted for the job the whole time scenario.

As long as they make the right moves in the end I'll be happy. (Fixing the OL adressing the QB situation in some form.) But, I get your frusteration. It happens when you start playing arm chair GM too much in your mind. I'm guilty of it too.

I didn't even know there were wagers on it.. That's bad man.. lolol I have no clue as to who was cut first. They announced it at the same time. Might ask Snisher?

Generally speaking I hate signing free agents who are proven, established players. They always come with a big contract - but you're getting a body with 5/6 years plus of attrition in the league and maybe their hearts not in it as much anymore. The love of the game is gone a bit and they're just working for a paycheck like the rest of us. And it shows. Almost always you get burned by them and it feels worse because you have high hopes for them! I much prefer signing a young, hungry player who's been cut somewhere else and has a point to prove and a contract to gain next time round. They usually work out better. See Marshawn Lynch's move from Buffalo for example a few years back. Our move a few years ago to bring in Jared Cook was like that. Now I know he's not the most popular with the fans but I think it was a good move and it worked. He's statistically the best tight end the St Louis Rams have ever had!

Re: the sportsbook wager I don't think we'll ever get a definitive answer. They probably called them in the same time and just talked to whoever was closest to the door in the meeting room first....its a matter of minutes between them BUT the decision to cut them was probably made at the same time. Maybe just give a refund there.

I'm a clear advocate of patient, calculated moves, and I was absolutely not frustrated with Robinson or Joyner's rookie seasons.

We have to be smart, the competition in our own division and the schedules and officiating we're given necessitate that.

Last year we put ourselves in the position to draft the best players available which was a very successful strategy in my mind.

Our defense is finally in great shape. We can sign a DT to back up Brockers and rotate in for Donald. After that we can draft any BPA available to help this team in the future.

Cutting Langford, Wells and Long was aggressive, as well as letting Barksdale test the FA. We may very well see 3 new faces on the offensive line. They also didn't hold on to Kendricks, which I consider another bold move as they do trust in their depth to fill in well enough. The changes to our line alone are enough to make this one of the most exciting off seasons in a long time.

Everyone won't get the guy they want, be that in the draft of free agency, but that happens every year for everyone.

There would be more reason to get excited about free agency if

A) The Rams didn't have so many big contracts dragging the team down and

B) The free agent pool was deeper.

Good teams don't let their good players go until they have squeezed every drop of value out of them.

don't the rams have brockers locked up for another season if they want to use the 5th year option for 1st round rookies? or will that be too much to pay, especially after suh's contract gets added to the mix?
