The Rams are an ROY dynasty! Not exactly how most teams measure success each year, but I'm learning to moderate my expectations!

Todd Gurley lands PFWA Rookie of the Year award
By Nick Wagoner

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley earned his first of what could be multiple rookie of the year awards Tuesday when the Pro Football Writers of America named him their winner.

Gurley, who earlier this offseason was named second-team All Pro, earned a Pro Bowl bid and the team's rookie of the year, is now able to turn his attention to more league-wide accolades. Tuesday's honor was his first rookie of the year award as the PFWA also voted Gurley the league's offensive rookie of the year and its first team all rookie running back.

With those wins in his pocket, Gurley figures to be right near the top of the list for the "official" offensive rookie of the year award. That will be handed out at the league's annual honors ceremony the night before the Super Bowl.

Gurley's place in the mix should come as no surprise.

Gurley finished the season as the NFL's third-leading rusher (1,106 yards) and posted 10 rushing touchdowns, but his production was limited at first by his recovery from the torn left ACL he suffered in November 2014 and at the end of the season by what coach Jeff Fisher described as a "mild" turf toe issue on his right foot. The former kept Gurley out of the first two games and limited him to six carries in his Week 3 debut. The latter kept him out of the season finale against San Francisco.

Despite those ailments, Gurley's immediate impact was unmatched by any other rookie running back in league history. He set the rookie record for most rushing yards in his first four starts and joined Jerome Bettis and Eric Dickerson as the only Rams rookies to rush for 1,000 or more yards.

Gurley wasn't the only Rams rookie to garner attention for his first campaign. Right tackle Rob Havenstein also earned a spot on the PFWA's all rookie team.
