The Good News is, the Rams have kept the players acquired with the first round picks and signed them to extensions, Cooks & Ramsey for example, however, IMO, what they did not factor in is first round picks are cost effective labor for several years and that helps the cap.

Trading away first round picks for premium players is easy, fitting them under the cap no so much. IMO, you won't be seeing the Rams doing that moving forward IMHO.

Good article but there’s no way imo the cap drops next year. TV revenue is up and that’s the lions share of it for teams. Plus we’re not the worst off for cap like this says, the Eagles and Saints are screwed next year even if it stays at the current level like I think.

The fact that the acquisition team is so well connected to the development team is this administration's secret sauce. Their level of effective communication is the reason undervalued players thrive on the Rams. They are just so good at identifying the characteristics the coaching staff wants from their players. It's a healthy interaction that was missing in previous regimes. It starts with McVay demanding excellence while regularly highlighting the contributions of everyone in the organization. There's an incredible level of mutual respect with all voices valued. Having suffered dysfunctional regimes in the past, this administration is a shining star we can be proud of as fans. The development of players all the way down to rookie FA's is a credit to the entire organization. And the courage to cut players who don't perform to their contracts should not be ignored. Letting go of players like Peters, Talib, Gurley, and Cooks were costly decisions but necessary to the overall approach. Sometimes it's personality, but more often lately it's been injury related.

I think they've been projecting low to reign in teams and to ensure that if the cap dips a smidge that fans don't complain too loudly.

But the league is better off freezing the cap for 2-3 years and then revisiting it with the NFLPA. I'm sure the NFLPA would prefer a frozen cap to having a bunch of the mid-high priced players priced out of the game for a season they can never get back.

Also, NO ONE for the good of the game wants to see teams completely dismantle in order to stay under the cap.

I think they'll figure something out. The LAST thing any sport wants to do is alienate fans when as a result of the pandemic, people are making different decisions. More people are watching as a result of staying home (I say this no matter what the rating say as they still have no reliable numbers on streaming and they've left SO much damn money on the table with that...)

Anyway, I think there's a LOT of things the league could do to mitigate the financial impact of COVID, but the NFL is the slowest league to embrace change, so...

I love these types of insights. Thanks for posting it @PhillyRam.

I find the different ways GMs build teams and look at the draft to be very interesting. I also look at some GMs and wonder how the end up in such a position when they suck at it.

p.s. if you scroll down to some of the other articles there is one saying Baker Mayfield has thrown the longest recorded pass in NFL history at 70 yards. He had to run a few steps to make it. How is that the longest recorded pass?

I'm sure they mean in the air.

Yes I know. There were/are QBs who could throw 50 yards through the goal posts on one knee. I would have thought a guy like Eway would have attempted a Hail Mary longer than 70 yards in his carreer.

Love the insight and read of that article with our personal staff. I loved over the years our focus on non Ake guys who are good role players.

Hell, Henderson just threw 70 on an “underrated” segment to get his Madden arm rating boosted!

Wouldn’t that be funny if he did it in a game and set the record as a RB? Ha!

Most teams don’t really try it past the 50 or so, the thing was he threw it completely out of the end zone. It’s kind of a meaningless stat, if there’s little pass rush and a guy gets a running start how far can he throw it. I’m sure there are guys with bigger arms than mayfield, they just haven’t done it during a game and why not make it completed pass to eliminate Hail Mary bs like this.

with a fast receiver like Tyreke Hill it could be a viable play

I’d expect it wouldn’t take much of a running start for some of the bigger armed QBs. My 13 year old son can throw 50 yards with reasonable accuracy and no running start. (That’s without pads.)
