2014 has come and gone, and so has another year without a St. Louis Rams playoff berth. But the sports world hasn’t been dry during those ten years. Here’s a sampling of what has happened since the last Rams playoff game on January 15, 2005…

– Georgia Frontiere passed away, leaving the Rams franchise to her offspring, Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez. Because of tax reasons, they were forced to sell controlling interest in the club to Stan Kroenke…
jeff fisher-4

Jeff Fisher is one of six to have coached the Rams since the team’s last playoff game.

– Mike Martz, Joe Vitt, Scott Linehan, Jim Haslett, Steve Spagnuolo and Jeff Fisher all coached the Rams…

– Thirteen quarterbacks started games for the Rams. Marc Bulger, Jamie Martin, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Gus Frerotte, Brock Berlin, Trent Green, Kyle Boller, Keith Null, Sam Bradford, A.J. Feeley, Kellen Clemens, Shaun Hill and Austin Davis…

– Robert Kraft has owned the Patriots…

– Bill Belichick has coached the Patriots…

– Tom Brady and Matt Cassel (15 games) have started games at quarterback for the Patriots…

– Each of the other teams in the NFC advanced to the playoffs at least twice…

– Chris Pronger was traded by the Blues to Edmonton, and led the Oilers, Ducks and Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals, winning it all with Anaheim in 2007. Pronger also suffered a career ending concussion and took a job in the NHL office…

– The Blues, like the Rams, have had three ownerships…

– The St. Louis Cardinals appeared in five NLCS, three World Series, and won championships in 2006 and 2011…

– Giants won a total of five World Championships. The New York Football Giants won the Super Bowl in the 2007 and 2011 seasons, and the San Francisco Giants won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014…

– The Cleveland Browns used a total of fifteen starting quarterbacks…

– With the NHL in the midst locking the players out, the league canceled the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2005…
aeneas williams

Aeneas Williams is one of two Rams to be inducted into the Hall of Fame since St. Louis’ last playoff game.

– Rams legends Marshall Faulk and Aeneas Williams retired and were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame…Faulk in 2011 and Williams in 2014…

– St. Louis gained three professional outdoor soccer clubs and lost two. St. Louis AC of the NASL conference of the USSL pro league, and St. Louis Athletica of WPS, a women’s league, came and went. St. Louis also has been awarded a new franchise called St. Louis FC that starts play in the USL in 2015…

– LeBron James led the Cavaliers to the playoffs for the first time, and then The Finals. Then he left for Miami and led the Heat to The Finals four times, winning two championships. Then he returned to Cleveland…

– The Chicago Cubs made the playoffs. Twice…

– After winning the 2006 World Series, the Cardinals built a new team and returned to the Fall Classic in 2011 with only three players that were there for 2006, and won again. In 2013, with six of 25 players around from 2011 and a new manager, the Cards went to the World Series, losing to Boston.

– The NHL had two lockouts…

– Mizzou’s football program went to two Big XII championship games, switched to a new conference, and played in two SEC championship games…

– Fans started getting their sports news on their smart phone, rather than on TV or radio…

– The Rams NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks appeared in two Super Bowls, winning one last year. The Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers also appeared in Super Bowls. Repeating, the ARIZONA CARDINALS appeared in a Super Bowl…

– The Blues dropped to the bottom of the NHL with 57 points in 2005-2006, but rebounded to have the second most points in the league in 2011-2012 with 109…

– Jimmie Johnson won six NASCAR Sprint Cup titles…

– Floyd Mayweather fought sixteen times, winning each fight. None of those, however, were against Manny Pacquiao…

– Brett Favre either flirted with retirement or announced his retirement four times, coming back on three occasions, to the Jets, and then to the Vikings twice. His final retirement occurred after the 2010 season…

– John Calipari coached teams to seven Elite Eights, four Final Fours, three title games and a championship with two schools, Memphis and Kentucky…

– Former Blues players Al MacInnis, Scott Stevens, Brett Hull, Doug Gilmour, Adam Oates and Brendan Shanahan were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame…
Aaron Donald-2

Rams rookie Aaron Donald received a Pro Bowl berth in 2014.

– The Rams exercised 91 draft choices. Two of them…Robert Quinn and Aaron Donald…were ever named to a Pro Bowl with the Rams…

– MLB Network and NHL Network were launched, joining NBA TV and NFL Network, and all four found their way in to most American homes…

– HD became an important thing…

– Saint Louis University opened a new arena, and had three men’s basketball coaches, two of whom…Rick Majerus and Jim Crews…took them to the NCAA tournament…

– Quarterbacks Alex Smith, JaMarcus Russell, Matthew Stafford, Sam Bradford, Cam Newton and Andrew Luck were all the top pick in their NFL draft. All but Ruseell and Bradford have led their franchises to the playoffs…

– Tiger Woods claimed and lost golf’s number one world ranking four times, including a record 281 week stretch from June of 2005 until October of 2010. He fell as low as 52nd and rebounded to number one, and currently is 32nd in the world.

– The floodgates opened for Cuban baseball players to defect to Major League Baseball, including All Stars Jose Fernandez, Aroldis Chapman, Yoenis Cespedes, Yasiel Puig and Jose Abreu, along with Alexei Ramirez, Jorge Soler, Yunel Escobar and Kendrys Morales…

– Three NCAA basketball programs each won two championships, Florida, North Carolina and UConn…

– Rory McIlroy turned 16, turned pro, won four majors and ascended to number-one in the world golf rankings…

– Nick Saban had a two year pro coaching career in Miami, then took the job at Alabama…

– Saban returned ‘Bama to prominence in football, winning three of the final five BCS championships…

– College football instituted a playoff…

– 101 ESPN came into existence…

I have predicted winning seasons for the Rams about eight times…

Let’s hope 2015 is the year the drought ends, and I can stop making up lists like this one.
