I don't think we've had 5 primetime games total over the past decade. What winning will do for ya, eh?

I hope we can keep this up, it looks like the NFL is just dying to make us the new media darlings now that the Pats are falling. They're already turning against them, it's our turn.

Another thing that stands out, as Kurt Warner pointed out! In the middle of the schedule the Rams have 7 of 9 games on the Road! That's rough! But then again, last season the Rams where "Road Warrior's" so I'm not too worried!

Just mentioning my birthday is the 8th as well. Turned 50 on last election night. Election resulted in no party for my 50th.

The NFL released the schedule for the 2018 regular season on Thursday night and three teams found out that they’ll have three straight road games on tap this season.

The Rams, Saints and Ravens drew the extended time away from their home stadiums this year. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy notes that is down from seven such road swings last season.

The Rams’ hit the road in Week Five for a divisional matchup with the Seahawks and then go on to face the Broncos and 49ers before returning home for a Week Eight date with the Packers. The good news for the Rams is that they’ll have three straight home games before setting off on their tour and they’ll have 10 days to prepare for Seattle after facing the Vikings in a Thursday night game.

New Orleans has its road swing later in the season, but they’ll have extra rest before two of the three games. After facing the Cowboys on a Thursday night in Week 13, the Saints face the Buccaneers on a Sunday and then head to Carolina for a Monday night game in Week 15. They close the regular season by hosting the Steelers and Panthers.

The Ravens renew their rivalry with the Steelers on Sunday night in Week Four and then move on for Sunday afternoon games against the Browns and Titans. They host the Saints upon returning to Baltimore in Week Seven.

Ten other teams join the Rams with three-game homestands this season.

ESPN picks NFL teams to win 289 of a possible 256 games

Now that the NFL schedule is out, people are going through and making game-by-game predictions for each team. That is an impossible task: No one can tell you with any degree of certainty today who’s going to win a game six months from now.

But if you’re going to try it at all, you ought to at least start from the premise that every game that one team wins, another team has to lose. Which means that, assuming there are no ties, NFL teams will go a combined 256-256 this season.

So when ESPN’s team of NFL writers compiled their predictions, it was amusing to see that they picked a total of 289 wins and only 223 losses. Yes, league-wide the Worldwide Leader thinks NFL teams are going to go 289-223, a .564 winning percentage in a world where the only certainty is a .500 winning percentage.

The problem isn’t that ESPN’s staffers went overboard with the best teams. In fact, the best record assigned to any team was 12-4, for the Rams. If anything the folks at ESPN might have understated the number of teams that will have particularly strong records.

No, the problem is that none of ESPN’s writers want to admit that the teams they cover stink. The worst record assigned to any team was 5-11 for the Browns. The next-worst was 6-10 for the Cardinals. And four teams are projected by ESPN to go 7-9. Other than that, every team is predicted by ESPN to go 8-8 or better. That is obviously way too rosy an outlook. Last year there was an 0-16 team, a 3-13 team, two 4-12 teams, four 5-11 teams and three 6-10 teams.

Overall, ESPN’s writers predict that the NFL standings will finish with one 12-4 team, seven 11-5 teams, six 10-6 teams, five 9-7 teams, seven 8-8 teams, four 7-9 teams, one 6-10 team and one 5-11 team. That’s not just overly optimistic, it’s mathematically impossible.

So let's see if I got this straight. You post saying here is something we may want to be concerned about, then you imply that there is nothing to worry about, in fact you're saying you're not worried. Is that what you're trying to say here? THEN WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU MAKE ME WORRY IN THE FIRST PLACE?!!! :rant:Have a nice day DaveFan51.:neener:

Nothing like stating the obvious that any idiot would know.

Oh wait!.... Well I did say ANY IDIOT.

Leave it to Florio's butt buddy to get in this little dig. Fuck you DMS you douche. Go smoke a giant bag of dicks.

Uh - yeah DMS - that would be the best team. But let's not go overboard. Yutz.

So let me get the gist of this article. DMS (a real pinhead in his own right) is calling the ESPN writers stupid while using the article to take a dig at our Rams as the true Whiner homer we know he is. Got it.

The Highlights of the NFL’s 2018 Schedule
Now that we know the times for every game, here are the dates worth circling in advance
By Riley McAtee

Because the NFL schedule is based entirely on math, we knew the 2018 home and away slates for each team the moment the 2017 season ended. That didn’t stop the NFL Network and ESPN from launching two-hour programs to announce and analyze the release of the full schedule, which amounts to nothing more than the dates and times for each game.

Still! This is actual football news. And though there are still nearly five months left before the 2018 NFL season kicks off, the schedule release makes the upcoming season just the tiniest bit more tangible. Here’s the full schedule—let’s look at the dates you need to circle on your calendar:

September 6: NFL Kickoff — Falcons at Eagles
This is an ideal kickoff game. It’s between two good teams who met in the playoffs, but the NFL isn’t burning a marquee matchup—like the Vikings-Eagles NFC championship game rematch that’s slated for Week 5—on a night when everyone is excited for the return of football regardless of the teams playing. I want to watch a good game on opening night, but the only story line I care about for that game is this: Football is back!

September 9: The Litmus Test Game — 49ers at Vikings
After finishing the season with five straight wins, the 49ers enter 2018 with plenty of hype. Though the team couldn’t pull out a victory before the arrival of Jimmy Garoppolo last year, San Francisco has the seventh-best Super Bowl odds for 2018. Can Garoppolo keep his hot streak alive? We’ll get an immediate answer, as the Niners face off against an accomplished Vikings squad to start the year.

And on the other side of the ball, Kirk Cousins will make his Minnesota debut. Can he push the Vikings to new heights? Whatever happens, this matchup is ripe for all kinds of overreactions.

September 16: Best Non-Primetime Matchup — Patriots at Jaguars
Seriously? The AFC championship game rematch isn’t in prime time? Instead, this week we’ll get Baltimore at Cincinnati (Thursday), Giants at Dallas (Sunday), and Seattle at Chicago (Monday) as our nationally televised games.

Patriots-Jaguars will likely still make it onto most of the country’s television sets due to its 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff time, but this feels like a missed opportunity. (Minnesota-Philly is also, inexplicably, not in primetime, but at least the prime time matchups that week—Dallas-Houston, Indianapolis-New England, Washington-New Orleans— inspire some confidence).

September 20: Worst Prime-Time Game: Jets at Browns
Why is Jets-Browns on Thursday Night Football? This might be the worst on-paper matchup of the entire season, and the NFL decided to put it in prime time. Even the one twist that might make this game interesting—the rookie quarterbacks each team will no doubt draft—may be a nonfactor, as this matchup is early enough in the season that it’s likely Tyrod Taylor will be starting for the Browns and either Josh McCown or Teddy Bridgewater will be starting for the Jets.

Prepare for lots of camera shots of rookies holding clipboards. Circle this date, but not because of football, but because this is an ideal Thursday to make some dinner reservations.

October 7: Battle for Texas — Cowboys at Texans
The last time these two teams played, Ryan Fitzpatrick was the quarterback in Houston. With Deshaun Watson, this matchup should be much more fun.

October 28: Best International Game — Eagles “at” Jaguars
After years of the NFL exporting some of its worst matchups, the league is finally sending one of its best across the pond. This is easily the most exciting London game ever. It’s the first time the United Kingdom has had a matchup of teams that both made the playoffs the previous season, and these two teams were just a few minutes away from a Super Bowl matchup. Remember to wake up early for this one.

November 1: The Ultimate Tiebreaker — Raiders at 49ers
San Francisco and Oakland have played eight times in their history, and the all-time series between the two cities is currently tied, 4-4. With the Raiders set to move to Las Vegas by 2020, this Thursday Night Football game will likely be the final battle for Bay Area supremacy (at least until the franchise inevitably moves back to Oakland). Considering the Niners and Raiders had to cancel their annual preseason game after 2011 because of fan-on-fan violence, the contest for forever bragging rights could get testy.

November 4: The Hall of Fame Quarterback Matchup — Packers at Patriots
Can you believe that Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have started against each other only once? Rodgers was injured during a 2010 trip to Foxborough, so the lone meeting between these two future Hall of Famers was a 2014 Week 13 matchup in which the Packers outlasted the Patriots, 26-21.

NFC and AFC teams only play each other once every four years, so unless these two squads meet in the Super Bowl (or Brady really is still playing at age 45), this will likely be the last time two of the best quarterbacks in league history face off. Brady will have a chance to even up the series, or Rodgers could wrap up the honor of having a career 2-0 record against the GOAT.

November 4: Biggest Mismatch of Individual Units — Chargers at Seahawks
Russell Wilson was under pressure on 41.4 percent of his dropbacks last season per Pro Football Focus, the highest rate for any quarterback who played at least 50 percent of his team’s snaps. Seattle hasn’t really addressed that issue this offseason; the only lineman the team has signed is D.J. Fluker, but he plays primarily at guard and is a better run blocker than pass blocker.

Meanwhile, Chargers defensive linemen Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram combined for 23 sacks in 2017. On paper, this looks like the type of mismatch that could escalate quickly. Godspeed, Wilson.

November 15: Most “Thank God Color Rush Is Dead” Game — Packers at Seahawks
Isn’t it nice that the NFL is doing away with the contrived “color rush” theme for Thursday Night Football games? Sure, I’ll miss the Rams’ gold outfit and the Steelers’ slick all-black look, but I certainly won’t shed a tear over the Seahawks’ fluorescent green outfit. Let’s leave those in the dustbin of history.

November 19: Best Monday Night Football Matchup — Chiefs “at” Rams
The Monday Night Football slate has been noticeably mediocre in recent years, and this year won’t buck that trend: Only three of the season’s 17 MNF matchups feature two teams that made the playoffs in 2017.

But Kansas City and Los Angeles both did, and they’ll face off in Mexico City for this matchup. If Patrick Mahomes II turns out to be the real deal for the Chiefs, this could be one of the most fun games of the season. Plus, Marcus Peters will have a chance to face off against his old squad.

December 6: Best Thursday Night Football Matchup — Jaguars at Titans
Thursday Night Football is moving to Fox this year, and the NFL has changed the time zone rules that limited TNF scheduling in the past. Now games can include teams from time zones that are more than one zone apart, which is what makes exciting TNF matchups like Vikings-Rams, Seahawks-Packers, and Chargers-Chiefs possible. But I have to go with a classic.

The Titans and Jaguars met on TNF in 2014, 2015, and 2016. It was an awkward tradition between two of the worst teams in the league: Those two squads won an average of 4.2 games in those seasons. After a hiatus in 2017, we’re finally back with a Jags-Titans matchup on a Thursday … except it should be good this year! Both these teams won playoff games in 2017, and both appear to have improved, at least on paper. For once, this can be a Thursday Night matchup to look forward to.

December 24: Best Revenge Game — Broncos at Raiders
There are plenty of games that will give players a chance to square up against their former teams, including Aqib Talib and the Broncos, Malcolm Butler and the Patriots, Sheldon Richardson and the Seahawks, Sammy Watkins and the Rams, Jimmy Graham and the Seahawks, Sam Bradford and the Vikings, Jason Pierre-Paul and the Giants, Teddy Bridgewater and the Vikings, Michael Crabtree and the Raiders, Marcus Peters and the Chiefs, and no doubt many more. But no one has more of a reason to seek vengeance than former Raiders punter Marquette King.

Head coach Jon Gruden surprisingly cut King, one of the better punters in the league, at the beginning of April, and King signed with Oakland’s division rival a week later.

“I never got a chance to talk to [Gruden],” King told Denver media on April 8. “... I think there is somewhat of a revenge factor in there.”

I can’t wait to see what dance King comes up with after he punts the Raiders into oblivion in this Monday Night Football matchup.

2018 NFL schedule release: Ranking top nine prime-time games
By Adam Schein

The NFL's prime-time schedule in 2018 is flat-out amazing. Seriously, better than ever.

When I pored over the sked to compile my list of candidates for this annual piece, I found 20 must-seegames. That's a robust number to whittle down from -- a much bigger "for your consideration" group than ever before. And I had to leave some juicy bouts on the cutting-room floor. One example: Richard Sherman's Week 13 return to Seattle with the Niners didn't make the cut. How relevant will the transitioning Seahawks be in December?

Without further ado, here's my list of the prime-time games I'm craving the most, Schein Nine style:

1) Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 21 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

Yeah. That's right. My favorite prime-time game this year is Rams at 49ers. Having this old-school rivalry relevant again -- and back in its SoCal vs. NorCal form -- is gold.

The Rams are absolutely loaded. The Niners boast the unbeatable Jimmy Garoppolo. Both teams are thinking playoffs -- and none of that one-and-done business. Both teams are fueled by brilliant young offensive-minded head coaches: Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay make games fun to watch.

I cannot wait to see them match wits in this midseason showdown. Oh, and then there's all of the intriguing newbies to this rivalry: Richard Sherman and Jerick McKinnon in San Francisco; Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters, Ndamukong Suh and Brandin Cooks in Los Angeles.

This game -- scheduled near the end of October, when both teams should be hitting their stride -- will have major playoff ramifications, for a division title and the wild card. I'm champing at the bit.

2) Green Bay Packers at New England Patriots

Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

Could this be the final matchup ever between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers? These iconic quarterbacks, two of the best in NFL history, sell the contest all by themselves. No need to discuss anything else. On to the next game!

3) Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles

Week 1: Thursday, Sept. 6 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

The NFL knocked it out of the park with this bird bout of a Kickoff Game. Many forget how close the Falcons came to knocking off the eventual Super Bowl champs in the Divisional Round of last season's playoffs. (What if Julio Jones doesn't fall down? What if Julio snags that ball?) Both of these teams -- which just so happen to be the NFC's last two Super Bowl reps -- head into the 2018 campaign with plenty of talent on both sides of the football.

The atmosphere in Philly is going to be off the charts, as these amazing (and rabid) Eagles fans finally get to celebrate a Super Bowl title and raise the banner. Will Carson Wentz be fully recovered from his December ACL tear and ready for action? I sure hope so.

4) Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 9 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

On opening weekend, we get treated to the NFL's oldest and most historic rivalry in the league's most historic venue, Lambeau Field. This is brilliant -- and the timing is superb, as Chicago is enjoying a fantastic offseason. I'm fired up about Matt Nagy's group.

In fact, I've already labeled the Bears my Cinderella team for 2018. There will be plenty of football buzz this September in the Windy City, with the new coach, new weapons (Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel and Trey Burton) and expectations for growth from Mitchell Trubisky in Year 2.

Oh, and the best quarterback in the NFL is healthy once again. Aaron Rodgers against the Bears to start the season? Sign me up!

5) New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings

Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 28 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

The "Minneapolis Miracle" rematch -- but this time with Kirk Cousins quarterbacking Minnesota. And with this Sunday night slot scheduled against Game 5 of the World Series, this matchup makes plenty of sense. New Orleans doesn't have a baseball team. And it's hard to imagine the Twins will still be playing.

New Orleans, always a fun team to watch, will have major revenge on its mind after this past January's soul-crushing loss. Marcus Williams definitely has this date circled on the calendar.

6) Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 18 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

Maybe Le'Veon Bell will stay off of Twitter the night before this rematch of last season's Divisional Round classic. The Jags, of course, made Bell eat his words. Jacksonville beat the Steelers twice in Heinz Field last season: once via blowout, once via shootout. Think Mike Tomlin's crew will enter this game with something to prove?

It's always fun and feisty when these two teams lock horns. Ben Roethlisberger vs. that ferocious Jaguars defense is a show in itself.

7) Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 9 at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC

So much amazing NFL history to revisit when these clubs get together. It's beautiful. And this might be the last time we see it in Oakland, with the Raiders headed to Las Vegas in 2020.

Pittsburgh is going to be great in 2018. And I'm buying the Raiders bouncing back under Jon Gruden. So, this December clash not only carries a wealth of historical richness, but it should have major playoff implications, to boot.

8) Minnesota Vikings at Los Angeles Rams

Week 4: Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8:20 p.m. ET on FOX/NFL Network

This could be a preview of the NFC title game. And the Coliseum is going to be rocking on this Thursday night. The atmosphere in Los Angeles for the Rams' playoff game was spectacular. Now with the aforementioned newcomers joining Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and Jared Goff, the Rams are truly ready for prime time.

This game will be Minnesota's first prime-time affair with Kirk Cousins, so it's kind of a big deal.

9) Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders

Week 1: Monday, Sept. 10 at 10:20 p.m. ET on ESPN

In certain years past, this Week 1 Monday nightcap failed to generate much excitement. Not this time. The back end of this double-dip -- which follows Jets at Lions -- is absolutely must-see TV, with Jon Gruden's official return to coaching and the Rams showing off their shiny new toys.

East Coasters: Plan to make that extra pot of coffee for this one. It'll be well worth it.

So far as I know there is only one automatic to when a bye week is assigned and that's after an international game. Every team that plays in London or Mexico City gets a bye the week after.
