Just kidding mods. We've been so bad for the last 10 years we have become accustomed to extremely early mocks because often enough we discovered under Fisher our season was over just about the same time it began. You can feel the difference in the air, this current Rams team is here to compete, they are going to leave a mark.

Now, what I do want to address is our upcoming game against San Die ... er, the Chargers. This game is about bragging rights, future ticket sales & who the rightful heir is as the proper host for professional football in Los Angeles. I'd kick Spanos and the Chargers right back to San Diego if it were my choice, but being it isn't, we must show them who's boss, which calls for a well deserved ass-kicking. While i'd prefer a blow-out victory, just winning gets the point across. Being our starters are likely to see the better part of the first 3/4's of this game, i'm hoping everyone is healthy and starting so we can truly get a feel for what our team is about. This upcoming game is important for our growth as a team and about the pride we carry in our team and the Los Angeles Rams as a top tier NFL football destination city, so let's fill the Coliseum and shout down those wannabe usurpers from down under. Rivers dissed L.A. when told the Chargers were moving here, lets let him know that he is free to leave anytime after we leave him and his team bruised & battered. jmo.

2017 Rams Rookie Report: Preseason Week 2
5
Another week, another successful showcase from key rookies.

The Los Angeles Rams continue to see progress in their rookies. Whether it be draft picks or free agents it seems this class under Coach Sean McVay’s tutelage is a good one as he continues to maximize their skillset.

The Rams rookies were vital from beginning (Gerald Everett and Cooper Kupp) to end (Josh Reynolds) with production in between from the young players.

Gerald Everett
After a quiet debut against the Cowboys, Gerald Everett made a huge leap this week in the passing attack. After snagging two passes last week, Everett caught all four of his targets this week, including an interesting play where he lined up as a fullback, came out the backfield and shook a defender (and fellow alum of mine) Marquel Lee.

The one knock on Everett is that he isn’t an experienced blocker. Though he won’t be expected to block Khalil Mack on a regular basis, this is one area where he can still stand to improve.

Cooper Kupp
Another week, another touchdown for Kupp. This time it came the way most foresaw, a reception touchdown.

This was a great play design and gameplan execution by the Rams. After using Todd Gurleywell in the zone running scheme, a playaction pass confused the cornerback who had deep third responsibility which led to an easy touchdown.

Kupp was impressive in his two quarters of action, he led the Rams in all receiving statistics, six catches on seven targets for 70 yards.

Josh Reynolds
Reynolds was fighting off the injury bug in his first training camp but has come on strong in recent weeks. While drawing rave reviews in camp for having a knack for the deep ball, he impressed fans with a game-winning touchdown reception on a deep ball.

It’ll be interesting to see how Reynolds fits into the Rams plan as he for now sits behind Sammy Watkins, Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, Pharoh Cooper, and maybe even behind Tavon Austin (once back from injury).

The Other Guys
Tanzel Smart continues to be solid in his action, playing well in Aaron Donald’s absence.

John Johnson played a lot in the slot corner position which is encouraging as he can be a switchblade. However, he had some struggling moments in coverage and had a high number of tackles which is not always a good thing for defensive backs.

Kevin Davis continues to impress at linebacker (a fairly thin position group) as Mark Barron continues to get veteran treatment in the preseason so far.

Overall
The young rookies are continuing to impress for this Rams team. As the preseason progresses, less and less rookies will impress but a select few like Everett and Kupp may actually see an increase in roles and responsibilities. This class is showing early returns of being a promising group.

Rams Recap Reaction: 2017 Preseason Week 2
14
The Rams offense impresses in Oakland.

From the onset, the Los Angeles Rams offense impressed against the Oakland Raiders. Jared Goff came out slinging and Todd Gurley showed glimpses of his 2015 season. The new weapons of Cooper Kupp, Sammy Watkins, Gerald Everett, and even Josh Reynolds all had flashes giving the Rams offense life.

When Coach McVay was hired, he was tasked to bring innovation to the Rams offense. So far, although it’s early, this offense has exhibited signs of progress. Is it still just preseason football, of course. However, when’s the last time we’ve seen stats like this for a half?

While the Rams offense had a great day (the starters anyways), the defense was a bit more vulnerable without essentially half their starters (Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn, Mark Barron, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Kayvon Webster). Save for a nice interception by Trumaine Johnson, the Rams defense had some tough moments. However, the Raiders offense led by Derek Carr, Marshawn Lynch, and Amari Cooper are going to have their moments like this and sometimes you just have to give them their props.

Overall, the Rams exuded another level of improvement this week. Next week is the real test as preseason week 3 is usually the best indicator of teams being at full strength.

Will the Rams continue to show another level of offensive progress? Can the Rams settle their contract situation with Aaron Donald? Is the defense going to show some consistency with more starters back?

Only time will tell but so far this preseason, the Rams have definitely impressed.

The Rams will take on the Chargers in a preseason L.A. battle.

Football is coming. When the NFL starts depends on how you define the beginning of the season. The Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys are the two teams with the earliest training camp start dates. Arizona starts on July 21 while Dallas begins a day later on July 22.

The squads kick off the preseason in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, August 3. Week 1 of the NFL season does not begin until Thursday, September 7 when the Chiefs take on the Patriots. As the calendar shows, there are a variety of different milestones along the way to get you ready for the season.

With that in mind, Heavy is here to help you look ahead to the preseason. Let’s be honest, preseason football is not always of the highest quality, so it requires a bit of digging to find what you are looking for. Here at Heavy, we have a simple philosophy. Some football is always better than no football.

During preseason, starters get limited reps making it a good time for fans to get familiar with rookies and players on the rise.

Here’s a look at
five 2017 NFL preseason games that need to be on your calendar.

No. 1 Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams (August 26)

GettyThe Chargers and Rams will meet for the first time as Los Angeles teams.

In the span of a year, Los Angeles went from being without an NFL team to having two teams. The Rams opening season in L.A. was far from ideal. With new coach Sean McVay there is a sense of optimism about the Rams.

This is the first meeting between the two Los Angeles teams. Aside from the obvious rivalry factor, fans are curious to see how quarterback Jared Goff performs in his second season. Todd Gurley is also due for a bounce back season.

No. 2 Houston Texans vs. Carolina Panthers (August 9)

GettyDeshaun Watson is set to make his NFL debut for the Texans.

Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey were two of the most exciting players in college football. With neither player’s role clearly defined, fans should be able to get a good look at them in this preseason Week 2 matchup. The Panthers also added speedster Curtis Samuel who can play both wide receiver and running back. The Panthers new-look offense is one of the most interesting things to watch during the preseason.

No. 3 Denver Broncos vs. Chicago Bears (August 10)
gettyimages-674174024.jpg

GettyMitchell Trubisky should see a lot of game action in the preseason.

All eyes are on the quarterback position in this matchup. For the Broncos, second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch is looking to prove he can take over the reins from Trevor Siemian. The Bears brought in veteran Mike Glennon then drafted Mitchell Trubisky out of North Carolina. Glennon is expected to start this season, but expect Trubisky to get some good reps during the preseason.

No. 4 New York Giants vs. Cleveland Browns (August 21)
gettyimages-613445738-1.jpg

GettyThe Browns are hoping top pick Myles Garrett can improve their pass rush for 2017.

It is not often the Browns make a list for positive reasons, but there it plenty to watch in Cleveland. The Browns selected defensive end Myles Garrett with the number one pick, and rookie DeShone Kizer is fighting for the starting position. The Giants brought in plenty of playmakers on offense to give Eli Manning numerous weapons in his final years. New York drafted one of the best receiving tight ends in Evan Engram. The Giants also brought in veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

No. 5 Tennessee Titans vs. Kansas City Chiefs (August 31)
gettyimages-602990608.jpg

GettyEric Decker heads to Nashville to give the Titans a much needed receiving weapon.

Tennessee has beefed up their receiving core with the addition of Eric Decker and drafting Corey Davis. The Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes who they hope will be their quarterback of the future. Alex Smith is expected to hang on to the starting job for at least this season. It is hard to predict how the teams will handle playing time given it is the final preseason game, but this could be an entertaining matchup if some of the rookies get to play.

Every year we gather around our favorite site (RamsOnDemand) and discuss what an amazing year it's going to be. Most of the time it is true homerism that dominates our mental faculties. This year? This year is different and I truly believe we have a shot at fielding a competitive football team. Go Rams Go!

Yeah my kids have been rollin their eyes when I told them this year's team might be different. But I really do think we finally have the right guy in charge now, and the entire org is now moving in one direction. Hopefully that direction is up, because if it's not I'm going to be far more disappointed than normal.

Ok back to my keg of Kool-Aid.
