Thanks @flv. It seems like a lot of effort and you were always there with the results shortly after the week's games had ended. Very well organised.

I have a vague memory of you saying that this was a bit of an experiment and we were all guinea pigs to an extent. If that memory is correct then I hope it served its purpose in that regard. Of course, if I've made that up then ignore me.

And congrats to @Florida_Ram for winning the whole thing

Thanks to all for the kind words. I forgot to post a .zip file with all the Week 17 picks. That's at the bottom of this post.

Calibrating the results wasn't difficult because I had done most of the preparation work before training camp. Finding the time to check the results on Sunday or Monday was the biggest factor. Re-checking the results was a big thing because I made about a dozen mistakes, mostly with the bookie picks. It was also important not to do the checking and re-chcecking at the same time or I would likely have made the same mistake twice.

The competition was experimental. I trialled it the previous year with 2 players and that showed what the problems were. I could have coped with 40, maybe even 50 players, but 100 players would have been overwhelming.

I'm curious as to whether this is a viable alternative to straight or spread Pick'ems. I find straight Pick'ems a bit stale because there are so many games where it's not worth considering the underdog at even money. The problem with spread Pick'ems is the frustration of picking against a hypothetical situation. You can have a team at -5 sitting on a 4 point lead late in a game when they could easily score more points. I found this Pick'em more entertaining but i'm not sure if it has a wide appeal. It didn't matter to me who made the most correct picks because it was about the quality of the picks rather than the quantity. That might be difficult for some to accept.

18 months on and i'm assuming everyone knows how to open .zip files.

For those unfamiliar with them .zip files are normal files compressed into a best size/shape bundle for minimum space and easiest upload/downloading. Most sites don't allow uploading of .txt, .doc, .xls, .mp3, .mp4, file formats so compressing them to .zip and .rar formats is the way to go. This XenForo forum allows .zip but not .rar. Proboards forums allow .rar but not .zip, (might have changed?). Anyway, there are small free programs that allow you to create/open such files. winRAR or 7zip would be my choices. Before downloading I should say my files are Microsoft Excel, (.xls) files so you'd need a program that can handle them. I should also point out that technically winRAR isn't free. It's a free 40 day trial which will ask you to uninstall the program after 40 days. It doesn't force you to and the program still works. You can also uninstall it and install a fresh copy. Both programs are easy to use. I prefer winRAR as it allows easy creation of both .zip and .rar files. 7zip also creates smaller .7z files but they are less common and .zip/.rar programs can't handle them properly.

This isn't something anyone needs to do. It's just for those who were curious about other people's picks and what was actually in the files.
